People credited with this unit standard are, in a controlled
environment, able to: prepare for roof truss assembly, and set
out and assemble truss components to produce roof trusses.

1
Definitions
Controlled environment is a manufacturing environment within which trade skills are
applied.
Shop drawings refers to the set of drawings associated with a building project to be
made in a controlled environment, and can include plans, elevations, sections, details
or any other drawings that give information about the project.
Workplace practice refers to the documented procedures specific to a workplace
which set out the standard and required practices of that workplace.

Credit for this unit standard indicates compliance with industry practice. Industry
practice refers to the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills that reflect the
productivity, uniformity, finish quality, and material economies currently accepted
within industry.

Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and Health and Safety in Employment
Regulations 1995;
Building Act 2004;

Evidence requirements
1.1
Supplied components and hardware are checked against shop drawings and
any identified faulty components or hardware items are replaced.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Roof truss members are set out in accordance with shop drawings and
workplace practice.
Range
top chords, bottom chords, webs, nail plates.
2.2
Component assembly sequence and production rate are in accordance with
workplace practice.
2.3
Fittings, fixings, and hardware are attached in accordance with shop drawings
and workplace practice.
2.4
Tolerances are within the requirements of shop drawings and workplace
practice.
2.5
Equipment is started, operated, shut down and maintained in accordance with
workplace practice.
2.6
Assembled trusses meet appearance and other company quality requirements
for truss type in accordance with workplace practice.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, or
an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can
report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading
to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.

standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
