Functional maintenance refers to company or manufacturer-specified, general, dayto-day tasks performed by a machine or tool operator to keep the machine or tool in working order. Manually operated saws refers to hand-held power operated saws and hand-held non-powered saws. Shop drawings refers to the set of drawings associated with a building project to be made in a controlled environment, and can include plans, elevations, sections, details or any other drawings that give information about the project. Workplace practice refers to the documented procedures specific to a workplace which set out the standard and required practices of that workplace. 2 Credit for this unit standard indicates compliance with industry practice. Industry practice refers to the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills that reflect the productivity, uniformity, finish quality, and material economies currently accepted within industry. 3 Legislation and publications relevant to this unit standard include: Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995; Building Act 2004; New Zealand Building Code. Evidence requirements 1.1 Interpretation of supplied data identifies job requirements for materials in accordance with workplace practice. Range evidence is required from one shop drawing and one cutting or component list. Outcome 2 Select and check material for cutting. Evidence requirements 2.1 Material is selected to minimise waste. 2.2 Material is selected to meet job requirements and workplace practice for dimensions, straightness, and appearance. 2.3 Material is checked to ensure compliance with cutting data in accordance with workplace practice. Outcome 3 Select and set up manually operated saws for cutting wall frames and roof trusses. Evidence requirements 3.1 Selection of saw, or saws, is in accordance with job requirements, manufacturers’ instructions, and workplace practice. 3.2 Saw, or saws, are set up in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions and workplace practice. Outcome 4 Measure and mark material for cutting wall frames and roof trusses. Evidence requirements 4.1 Material lengths are measured and marked in accordance with job requirements and workplace practice. Outcome 5 Cut and produce wall frame and roof truss components. Evidence requirements 5.1 Material is cut in accordance with selected cutting sequence. 5.2 Saw, or saws, are used to produce components in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions and workplace practice. Range operation, maintenance, monitoring, health and safety procedures, shutdown. 5.3 Out-feed components are stacked and marked in accordance with workplace practice. 5.4 Production rate is maintained in accordance with workplace practice. 5.5 Components are checked to ensure they meet job requirements in accordance with workplace practice. Range 5.6 lengths; cuts – mitre, angle, square, combination, offset. Cut components are stacked and distributed in accordance with workplace practice. Outcome 6 Monitor and functionally maintain manually operated saws for cutting wall frames and roof trusses. Evidence requirements 6.1 Monitoring and functional maintenance is in accordance with workplace practice and the manufacturer’s instructions.
