seeking credit have acquired knowledge and skills in the diagnosis of the relevant
boat system.

Evidence of the elements of this unit standard must be presented across one of the
following contexts:
single boat systems include but are not limited to – sailing systems and rigs, marine
motive power systems, steering systems, deck handling systems, anchoring and
loading systems, internal systems (such as hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, motive
power, fuel, gas, fire fighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lifting, refrigeration,
drainage, fresh water, and acoustics systems).

This unit standard is not applicable to the commissioning of marine electrical and
electronic systems.

The following apply to the performance of all elements of this unit standard:
a
All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented
worksite health and safety procedures (where these exceed code) for personal,
product, and worksite health and safety, and must meet the obligations required
under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and subsequent and
delegated legislation.
b
All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented
worksite environmental procedures (where these exceed code) for personal,
product, and worksite environmental matters, and must meet the obligations
required under the Resource Management Act 1991, and subsequent and
delegated legislation.

This unit standard can be assessed on and off job in combination.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Prepare for commissioning a single boat system.
Performance criteria
1.1
Commissioning criteria are established to clients' and/or manufacturer’s and/or
regulatory requirements.
Range
criteria specific to the commissioning of the specific system, and to
the interfaces with related systems.
1.2
Commissioning schedule enables all tests to be carried out through a full range
of agreed contexts in accordance with commissioning criteria, within the time
available, and without the need for retesting.
1.3
Plan for commissioning the specific system is coordinated with any overall boat
commissioning plan, and with personnel commissioning other systems, so that
commissioning activities do not interfere with each other.
Element 2
Test and evaluate the single boat system.
Performance criteria
2.1
Tests are carried out in accordance with the commissioning plan, and any
overall boat commissioning plan.
2.2
Testing methods establish the degree of conformity between system
performance and agreed commissioning criteria.
2.3
Evaluation of system performance establishes the nature and amount of any
work required to reach the agreed commissioning criteria.

Hand over the system.

to clients or to clients’ representatives.
Performance criteria
3.1
All the agreed commissioning criteria are fully reported.
3.2
Any work required to meet the agreed commissioning criteria is reported in
quantified terms.
3.3
Reports are documented in accordance with company and/or regulatory
requirements.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
