This unit standard applies to the provision of both electrical and electronic services.

Evidence of the elements of this unit standard must be presented across the
following elements:
a systems – AC/DC generation, distribution and reticulation systems; electrical
vessel control and monitoring systems; marine electronic systems including
communications, navigation, hydro acoustics and entertainment systems;
evidence is required for one.
b equipment – electrical includes pumps, generators, batteries and electrical
equipment attached to other systems, such as engines; electronic includes all
communications, navigation, hydro acoustic, entertainment and electronic
equipment attached to other systems, such as engines;
evidence is required for one.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Establish commissioning criteria for marine electrical and electronic systems and
equipment.
Performance criteria
1.1
Commissioning criteria are established to client and/or manufacturer’s and/or
regulatory requirements.
1.2
Commissioning schedule enables tests to be carried out through a range of
agreed contexts in accordance with commissioning criteria, within the agreed
time and without the need for retesting.
1.3
Commissioning plan is co-ordinated with boat commissioning plan and with
personnel commissioning other systems.
1.4
Preparations for sea trials are agreed with owner and/or boatbuilder.
Element 2
Check system installation and operation.
Performance criteria
2.1
Equipment and system installations are checked in accordance with industry
practices and manufacturer’s recommendations.
Element 3
Check system performance against criteria and calibrate equipment.

3.1
Equipment is operated in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and
recommendations.

3.2
Tests are carried out in accordance with the commissioning plan,
manufacturer’s warranty requirements and boat commissioning plan.
3.3
Testing methods establish the degree of conformity between systems’
performance and agreed commissioning criteria.
3.4
Sea trials are carried out in accordance with industry practice and equipment
manufacturer’s recommendations in agreed weather and sea conditions.
Element 4
Complete post instalment processes and documentation.
Performance criteria
4.1
Systems, equipment and training are completed in accordance with
commissioning criteria.
4.2
Any outstanding work is reported in accordance with company requirements.
4.3
Commissioning reports are documented in accordance with company and/or
regulatory requirements.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
