Definition
Worksite procedures refer to documents that include – worksite rules, codes, and
practices; equipment operating instructions and maintenance schedules;
documented quality management systems; and health and safety requirements.

Shut down and isolation must be demonstrated for a minimum of two hydraulic
equipment items, on a vessel being constructed or maintained, each with different
isolation requirements.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Prepare for shut down and isolation of hydraulic equipment on a vessel being constructed
or maintained.
Performance criteria
1.1
The impact of shut down is assessed in terms of effects on neighbouring
systems and equipment.
Range
upstream, downstream.
1.2
Shut down procedure is established in accordance with system and equipment
requirements.
1.3
All personnel affected by the shut down procedure are advised in accordance
with worksite procedures.
1.4
Potential hazards associated with the shut down are identified in terms of type
and magnitude of hazard.
Range
may include but is not limited to – moving parts, energy release,
exposure to power source(s).
Element 2
Shut down and isolate hydraulic equipment on a vessel being constructed or maintained.
Performance criteria
2.1
Equipment lock-off devices and tags are used in accordance with worksite
procedures.
Range
may include but is not limited to – isolation of mechanical and
electrical drives, pipework, pressure supply systems (oil, water
and product), rotating equipment, electrical switches, circuit
breakers, mechanical and power driven valves, blanking plates,
chocks, safety pins.
2.2
Stored or residual energy is dissipated or restrained in accordance with worksite
procedures.
2.3
System and equipment records are completed for shut down and isolation in
accordance with worksite procedures.
2.4
Equipment is shut down and isolated in accordance with equipment and system
requirements.

Please note
Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
