Classification Boating Industries > Boatbuilding Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 BUS systems include NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000, and proprietary systems. 2 Marine equipment may include – GPS, radar, VHF, SSB, AIS, chart plotter, sounder/sonar, autopilot and heading, speed, wind sensing equipment, PC interface. 3 Definition BUS – a common electronic data connection between multiple electronic devices. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of NMEA and proprietary on-board data communication systems. Evidence requirements 1.1 Data BUS communication is explained for marine electronics in accordance with NMEA protocols. 1.2 DataBUS options are explained in terms of equipment compatibility. Range 1.3 includes – manufacturer proprietary BUS, NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000 certified equipment. Equipment interface options using DataBUS are explained for a minimum of four pieces of interfaced electronic equipment.
