It also introduces people to whānau-centred approaches to the delivery of health services. Under the guidance of a health professional and/or in accordance with a personal professional plan, graduates will be able to demonstrate understanding, knowledge and practical application of health services to kuia and koroua, based on whānau-centred models of practice. Whanaungatanga This kaupapa highlights the importance of Māori cultural values, te reo, tikanga and kawa in establishing, building and maintaining quality relationships when working with kuia, koroua and their whānau. Kaitiakitanga This kaupapa refers to the skills and knowledge needed to support the protection, maintenance and strengthening of the mauri, mana and tapu of kuia, koroua and their extended whānau, through the delivery of culturally appropriate, effective and timely services. Manaakitanga This kaupapa highlights the importance of practitioners who work from a whānau-centred perspective when working with kuia, koroua and their whānau. Practitioners need to deliver manaenhancing and culturally appropriate care that recognises and builds on the strengths of kuia, koroua and their extended whānau. Pūkengatanga This kaupapa highlights the importance of: keeping abreast of new knowledge, technologies and models of whānau-centred provision; practitioners being able to self-reflect on one’s own model of practice as part of continuous self-improvement, and; sharing lessons learnt with other practitioners, providers, whānau and other key stakeholders. Rangatiratanga This kaupapa acknowledges the importance of practitioners having the knowledge, skills and experience to lead the delivery of whānau-centred health services to kuia, koroua and their whānau, including: knowledge of local kawa and tikanga; use of te reo; role-modelling positive behaviours based on kaupapa Māori principles; and meeting legal and ethical requirements in a professional manner. Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification may be awarded by any education organisation accredited to deliver a programme leading to the qualification. If the education organisation has been awarded the Mātauranga Māori Quality (MMQ) Mark for a programme of study leading to Qualification Reference 2873 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 Page 2 of 4 this qualification, the certificate will also display the MMQ Mark. Evidence requirements for assuring consistency Evidence may include some or all of the following for the Tiaki Kuia, Koroua consistency reviews: - portfolios of learner work - internal and external moderation reports - programme completion data and course results - Tiaki Kuia, Koroua programme evaluation reports - benchmarking across common programmes - site visit reports - actions taken by the education organisation in response to feedback from graduates, current students, tutors/assessors - relevant MMEQA external evaluation and review data where applicable - graduate destination data - other relevant and reliable evidence.
