For Short Term Expert
Support for Editing and Proofreading
Background of the assignment
The general objective of the project Technical Assistance to the Civil Society Organisations 2 (TACSO 2) from
the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) Beneficiaries 2 is to strengthen civil society within a
participative democracy, to stimulate a civil society-friendly ‘environment’ and culture, as well as the general
objective to strengthen the overall capacities and accountability of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) within
the IPA beneficiaries and to guarantee the quality of services of CSOs and a sustainable role of CSOs in the
democratic process.
The main purposes of the project are to:
 increase and improve the capacity and actions of CSOs; and
 improve the democratic role of CSOs
The purpose of this assignment is to edit, proofread and quality check the translations for deliverables which
are TACSO reports and communication tools.
Scope of the assignment:
The junior short term expert will provide assistance to the national project team of Turkey and realize the
following output:
Comprehensive and meticulous editing, proofread and quality check the Turkish and English versions
of:
1 TACSO Needs Assessment Reports (English and Turkish)
12 Newsletters (English and Turkish) (Example:
http://www.tacso.org/documents/newsletters/Archive.aspx?template_id=73&langTag=trTR&pageIndex=1 )
1 Quality Assurance Report edit and proofreading (English version edited & compared to Turkish)

Activities to be carried out:

Language and grammar editing of above mentioned outputs to develop deliverables
Cross-checking for meaning with corresponding English versions where applicable

Final edited versions of Needs Assessment Report Tr&Eng versions
Final version of Quality Assurance Report in English
Final versions of 12 Newsletters (6 in TR and 6 in Eng)

Location of assignment
 Remote Location, Turkey
This project is funded
by the European Union.
The STE will work closely and in a timely manner with TACSO Turkey Team. Timely and quality submissions of
deliverables will be the bases for STE performance.
Duration and timing of the assignment
The assignment is planned to take place during the following period for a total of 12 days
The work is planned to take place on November 2013 - July 2014.
Profile of the STE:








University degree preferably on social sciences
Minimum 5 years of professional working experience in civil society related work
Familiarity with terms related to project development and management, CSO management,
advocacy and lobbying and citizen’s participation.
Experience researching, translating and editing for publication required.
Excellent written communication skills
High attention to detail and quality of final product
Good command of written and spoken English and Turkish
Proven record for similar activity in relation to civil society is a must
Applicants must be independent and free from any conflict of interest. Note that civil servants and other
staff of a beneficiary public administration may not be recruited as STE unless to prior written approval has
been obtained from Contracting Authority.
Monitoring and evaluation of the STE
The activity will be monitored by the RA/TL.
The STE will deliver the final output to the RA/TL before remuneration.
Application:
This is an open call for STEs. Applications must be in English and entail the following:
 Letter of intent and availability:


The letter shall highlight relevant experience providing refences to ToR . Please note that it is
expected to provide relevancy of experience and qualifications outlined in scope of ToR in
LoI.
○
The letter must include fee requirements of STE.
○
The letter shall indicate motivation to apply for the call.
