Unit Overview: This unit was designed for the students to grasp a better understanding of some college level literature. Though teaching this the student will have a better understanding of Shakespeare’s plays, dialect, and the student will also be able to classify his plays into comedy and tragedy. Students will be asked to participate in class, do homework and take a test at the end in order to be evaluated. Materials: Text books (Macbeth & A Midsummer Night’s Dream) Piece of paper and a pen Dictionary Objectives: Students will be able to understand Shakespearian dialect/ language of times. Students will be able to tell the difference between tragedy/ comedy. Students will be exposed to college level literature. Activities: Monday: Students will look up comedy in a dictionary and will discuss what makes a comedy. We will also go over what the play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, was about. Tuesday: (Students would have already made up a list of words that they had trouble with.) We will make up a big list of vocabulary words to be studied for Friday’s test. Wednesday: Class will discuss tragedy and what makes up tragedies. Class will also discuss the play Macbeth. Thursday: We will go over any questions that students have with anything that has been discussed. We will play the vocabulary game to review for the test. Friday: Vocabulary test. Evaluations: Students will answer questions by participating by discussion. Students will take a test at the end of the week on vocabulary.
