INTRODUCTION TO WOODWINDS Instructor name and contact information Judith Katz, M.M. jakatz@hunter.cuny.edu bandmaster@gmail.com Course: MUS 643 Goals and Objectives: Students will be introduced to the different methods of teaching woodwinds in a classroom environment. They will learn to play various woodwinds and will be introduced to the assortment of accessory items that are essential to the woodwind player. Course Requirements: This is a graduate level course and a requirement for music education majors Grading and Attendance Policy: Grades will be based on attendance, punctuality, general attitude and contribution to the entire group. In addition, there will be the following items that will be averaged into students’ grades: - 3 woodwind assignments An original trio composition (either based on an original piece, or an arrangement of an existing composition) that will be played by the group A final playing exam: Three scales of a student’s choosing, 3 short instrumental selections of a student’s choosing, played on any woodwind instrument.
