Interview of David Nowadays, computer prints many of the film poster advertisement, some of them are still painted by hands, but we can see this kind of advertisement rarely. This time we have the valuable chance to interview the real handmade artist in Hong Kong, David, who’s working in Imperial Cinema (京都). He was very famous, many of the magazine and TV channel had interviewed him, even the NHK TV in Japan. When the first stepped into his studio, we all felt very surprise. There are many works on the wall; his works surrounded us. No printing machine, no computer, just have some pigments and stationeries, all the works are made by own hands .The works are 90% like the one printed by machine, it made us feel very astonished. We are very interested about how to paint it, so he did the demonstration for us. The process was very complicated; we found that to paint a film advertisement is not easy, each of them has a lot of hard work. Interviewee:David(D) Interviewer: Hody (H) H: What is your job? D: My job is a real handmade artist. H: What did the job do? D: This job is to draw the film poster outside the cinema by hand. When I received the graph, I will start to work on two white paper, I will abundant the white paper to a colourful paper. Also,I have to enlarge a small picture to a large poster, it is a complicated work. After that, I have to colour the poster, it needs many energy. H: Why you would like to do this job? D: I was an English teacher when I was young.I did this because my father also do this, in the old day, we have to respect our parents, we have to do what our parents want us to do. Also, in that time, the number of cinema had raised up, so it needed many of the real handmade artist. H: How about the working hour? D: I was very free that I can go to work whenever I like and I can leave the work whenever I like.But I have to responsible because when the cinema have new film, I have to come back to finish the work and hand in the work on time. H: What is your salary? D:Um…I cannot tell you the real number but I can only tell you that the salary was low. H: Do you have any unfadable experience? D: If I like this job, I think it is interesting. H: Then you enjoy the job very much? D: Yes.I am sixthy seven years old, I am nearly cannot move, because I like this job very much, so I will forget my age when I was doing the work. H: What are the disadvantages of this job? D: Because this may need a lot of energy, it may make my whole body aches. H: Will you find a people to learn your skills? D: It is because in nowadays, this job cannot not earn for a living, so no people will learn these skills. H: When will you retire? D: I will do the work until I cannot walk because I love this work very much and I was proud of my job. H: Thank you for your interview! D: You are welcome! Interview of Miss Hon Cheuk Wing Interviewee: Miss Hon Cheuk Wing (H) Interviewer: Mona (M) M: What is your job? H: I am a Part-time Court Interpreter. M: What did the job do? H: This job is to translate the amoy language to cantonese in the court, police station and prison etc. Also when a criminal’s second confession is not same as the first confession, and I will need to be a witness to prove that the criminal is lying. M: How about the working hour? H: It is not regular.It may be long or it may be short. M: What is your salary? H: The salary on now $204 per hour with a minimum of two hours payment for each assignment; from the third hour onwards, payment of remuneration will be computed on a half-hour-basis. M: Do you have any unfadable experience? H: Yes! Once an illegal immigrant said to the judge that he wanted to return to his own homeland by a plane because he had not been to a plane before. It is so funny that I have laughed in the court. But actually, I shouldn’t laugh in the court. M: What is the difficulties of this job? H: Sometimes when I feel tired, I can’t concentrate what the criminal and the judge say, I will be very frighten that I say it wrongly. If I did, I will get into a great trouble. M: What are the advantages of this job? H: For advantages, I can know more about the laws in Hong Kong. Also I can see the relationship between people. Lastly, I can know more friends. M: What are the disadvantages of this job? H: For disadvantage, the working hours and the salary is not regular, therefore I might need to go out in midnight to work. This make me feel tired and sick. M: But why you still want to do this job? H: It’s I want to use my native dialect to work and I think it may have fun in this job. M: Thank you for your interview!
