Week of October 13-17, 2014 Weekly Learning Targets Teacher: Kindred Team: U.S. History I can explain how the newly independent United States attempted to formulate a national economy. I can analyze what colonial experiences led to the writing of the Articles of Confederation, a new Constitution based on the principles of federalism and separation of powers, and a Bill of Rights. Monday Activities: 1. Do Now- Explain one effect of the American Revolution. 2. Graphic Organizer: Causes and Effects of the American Revolution- In groups, students will complete a graphic organizer to highlight the causes and effects of the war for independence. 3. Class Discussion: The Constitutional Convention- Students and teacher will discuss the events of the Philadelphia convention and describe the compromises made by members of the convention. Materials: Powerpoint Follow Up/HW: Follow reading schedule AND study for chapter 6 quiz on BLOCK DAY Tuesday Activities 1. Do Now- What agreement established the structure of the national legislature we have today? 2. Group Activity: Articles of Confederation vs. Constitution- In groups, students will complete a venn diagram in which they will compare the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution. 3. Class Discussion: The First Political Parties- Students and teacher will discuss the formation of the nation’s first political parties Materials: Powerpoint Follow Up/HW: Follow reading schedule AND study for chapter 6 quiz on BLOCK DAY Wed/Thur I can compare limited rights of some groups to those with ideas promoting self-government and personal liberty domestically and around the world. Activities: PSAT DAY- MODIFIED BELL SCHEDULE 1. Do Now- Describe Hamilton’s plan to structure the national economy. 2. Writing Skills: Thesis Development- Students will review their work on the previous writing assessment and evaluate sample thesis statements. 3. Document Analysis: Alien and Sedition Acts- Students will analyze documents pertaining to the passage of the Alien and Sedition Acts 4. Chapter 6 Quiz- Students will answer 15 multiple-choice questions over Chapter 6. Materials: Quiz, assessments Follow Up/HW: Study for Assessment #5 *MAJOR GRADE* Friday Activities: 1. Do Now- Take out a blue/black ink pen. 2.
