Sub Plans – Week of September 29 – October 3, 2014 Dear Ms. Sanders, Thank you for watching my classes this week. This was certainly un-expected on my part. I am sure the kids will have lots of questions about if I am okay. PLEASE TELL THE STUDENTS: The baby is perfectly fine; I am the one who the problem with, and being out this week is just a precaution. I am hoping to be back next week. Please tell the students that I will be working on grading from home, so they need to keep checking their grades using Parent Student Connect. If they have anything to turn in, please collect it, and I will be by late this week to pick it up. But, by me being out a whole week, work on their part has to get done. They have to continue just like I was at school. I am going to break these sub plans down by day (I think that will make it easiest to follow) For copies, my class sizes are: Prep – 65; APHG – 36; and Pre-AP 58. Please make like 10 to 12 extra copies (except for APHG – they only need like a couple extra copies) 1st period – has a co-teacher, Mr. Chase Plagens who will be with you. He will be the lead teacher this week. Monday, September 29, 2014 Prep World Geography – 1st & 2nd Periods On Friday, I left the benchmark for them to do. I have no idea if it was done or not, but I do not think it was, based on a report from another sub later in the day. The benchmark and scantrons for the benchmark are in my bottom left hand drawer in my desk. Please do the benchmark first, if not already done. Then they need to start the notes (the title at the top of the page says “Unit 2.1 Forces of Change Notes” – see attachments). Right now, I am not sure where the handout is in my classroom, but I had made copies of these before I left. On the computer, if signed in as the student (wssidhsst & PASSWORD), you will see the notes “Earth’s Structure & Forces of Change” I am not sure if you will get through all of them, but we can try. Please remind students they will have a QUIZ at the beginning of the period on Wednesday/Thursday over Forces of Change/Landforms AP Human Geography – 3rd period This is my AP class, and they will be doing WAY different things than the rest of my classes. Today, they have a quiz (that was supposed to be on Friday, but because about half the class was absent because of the WEGA field trip, it got moved to today). The next thing they will do is the Malthus Essay, which I will allow them to use their notes from their arguments they were supposed to gather together for today. Pre-AP World Geography – 4th & 5th Periods – Please see Prep plans for today. Please remind them that they will have a quiz at the beginning of the period on Wednesday/Thursday over Forces of Change/Landforms But note, 5th period has finished the notes, so for today they can begin the Landforms Dictionary – PAP, which is found in my bottom left hand drawer. The Landforms Dictionary, they will need paper and there is an open ream behind my desk on the little file cabinet. Also, please tell my PAP classes that I will count their current events projects on next six weeks and have them ready to turn in to me on Monday, October 6th, and I will NOT accept late work, because they already have extra time to turn it in. Tuesday, September 30, 2014 Prep World Geography – 1st & 2nd Periods – Today, they will need to finish the notes and then work on the Landforms Dictionary – Prep. This is found in my desk drawer, with copies already made. They will need the atlas to help them do this work. There is a page early in the atlas that shows all the different landforms, but as I do not have an atlas at home, I cannot tell you what page it is. Also, please read the directions carefully to the kids. They are finding 10 different landforms, and they must use at least five absolute (latitude/longitude coordinates) and 5 relative locations (using relationships, such as Rocky Mountains are in the Western part of North America). After you finish the notes, tell them this activity is due at the end of the period. (it will be something I pick up at the end of the week to grade) Please remind students they will have a QUIZ at the beginning of the period on Wednesday/Thursday over Forces of Change/Landforms AP Human Geography – 3rd period I am working on getting them early access to the HUB, but I will have to probably get back to you exactly what I want them working on in class. Pre-AP World Geography – 4th & 5th Periods – Today, Pre-AP will finish the Landforms Dictionary (4th may just be starting it). Once they finish their graphs then have them go fill out their “dictionaries”. Remind them that both their graphs (so have their name on them) and their dictionary are due at the end of the period (you may need to give 4th a little extra time on Thursday to finish.) Please remind students they will have a QUIZ at the beginning of the period on Wednesday/Thursday over Forces of Change/Landforms Wednesday/Thursday, October 1 & 2 Prep World Geography – 1st & 2nd Periods – Today, prep will: 1. Review (10 minutes or so, Mr. Plagens will lead 1st period) 2. Quiz (see attachments – copies will need to be made) 3. Graphic Organizer – weather vs. Climate 4. Notes- LAMECOWS (factors affecting Climate) You will need to print the graphic organizers (one side will be the Weather vs. Climate & the other side will be the LAMECOWS [all the boxes with arrows going toward the middle] – YOU WILL NEED TO PRINT THIS AS A WHOLE PPT PAGE, not the notes view or any other view). On Monday, I will hand out the other sheet that is titled LAMECOWS (so they will have another reference). Go through the notes slowly and make sure they understand what is going on – these are important notes that we will build on other things to. So basically, two and three go together. Please don’t give them the completed Weather vs. Climate graphic organizer. They can do this! AP Human Geography – 3rd period I am working on getting them early access to the HUB, but I will have to probably get back to you exactly what I want them working on in class. Pre-AP World Geography – 4th & 5th Periods – Today, Pre-AP will: 1. Review (about 5 minutes or so – they knew this was happening) 2. Quiz (see attachments – you will need to make copies) 3. Weather vs. Climate graphic organizer 4. LAMECOW Notes – see prep for notes on #3 & 4 5. Climograph activity – they can start these in class then what they do not finish is homework that is due Monday, October 6th. Please remind them that their current events are due Monday, when I return and since they had a week’s extra time, there will not be any late work that is accepted! Also, on Wednesday and Thursday my duty assignment for the Guidance Period is SUPERVISION. Please see Ms. Vargas in the South 2 Office for further details. On Thursday, during the first 20 minutes of B lunch, I have duty at the front of South 2. Please again check with Ms. Vargas and she will let you know exactly what is expected of you. Again, Thank you for your help this week. It is much appreciated. And, I will get back to you with plans for APHG, but I have to do some extra work there.
