Selecting a Strategic Planning Model

The goal of this Action Project is to select a strategic planning model that will facilitate
the strategic planning process, thus help the College to achieve its mission and vision.

why the project and its goals are high among your current priorities.
The Board of Trustees approved new goals for the College in April, 2005. These goals
laid the foundation for updating and improving the strategic planning process. In
addition, the AQIP Steering Committee, through its data mining process, identified
strategic planning as an area in need of improvement. The project received additional
support and impetus at a problem-solving workshop attended by faculty, administration,
and staff in November, 2005 and January, 2006.

All departments, teams, and units directly involved in strategic planning will be affected
by this project.
F. Name and describe briefly the key organizational process(es) that you expect this
Action Project to change or improve.
The key process that will be improved is the planning process.
G. Explain the rationale for the length of time planned for this Action Project (from
kickoff to target completion).
This is a short-term project with the purpose of selecting a strategic planning model. A
team has been established and initial research into possible models has begun. The team
has determined criteria for selecting the model and will apply those criteria to potential
models in May, 2006. The top model will be presented to the Staff Caucus and Faculty
Caucus and MAC in June/July, 2006, for input then to administration for approval.
Using the model will begin in Fall 2006.
H. Describe how you plan to monitor how successfully your efforts on this Action Project
are progressing.
A Strategic Planning Team has been established and charged with this project. They will
report to the AQIP Steering Committee whose responsibility is to track the progress of
Action Projects.
I. Describe the overall “outcome” measures or indicators that will tell you whether this
Action Project has been a success or failure in achieving its goals.
The successful outcome of this project will be the adoption of a strategic planning model
by the College.
