Planning Continuous Improvement
D. Describe briefly your institution’s reasons for taking on this Action Project now —
why the project and its goals are high among your current priorities.
The Board of Trustees approved new goals for the College in April, 2005. These goals
laid the foundation for updating and improving the strategic planning process. In
addition, the AQIP Steering Committee, through its data mining process, identified
strategic planning as an area in need of improvement. The project received additional
support and impetus at a problem-solving workshop attended by faculty, administration,
and staff in November, 2005 and January, 2006. A strategic planning model was adopted
by the College in October, 2006. In this project, the College will implement the model.
E. List the organizational areas — institutional departments, programs, divisions, or units
— most affected by or involved in this Action Project.
All departments, teams, and units directly will be affected by this project.
F. Name and describe briefly the key organizational process(es) that you expect this
Action Project to change or improve.
The key process that will be improved is the planning process.
G. Explain the rationale for the length of time planned for this Action Project (from
kickoff to target completion).
Two years will allow the College to experience one strategic planning cycle – to set goals
the first year and follow with assessment the second year.
H. Describe how you plan to monitor how successfully your efforts on this Action Project
are progressing.
A Planning Action Council will be established. The Planning Champion, leader of the
Council has been selected. The Planning Champion will also serve as Action Project
leader and will report to the AQIP Steering Committee. The Committee has the
responsibility for tracking the progress of Action Projects.
I. Describe the overall “outcome” measures or indicators that will tell you whether this
Action Project has been a success or failure in achieving its goals.
The successful outcome of this project will be the implementation of one full cycle of
strategic planning by the College.
