Students will research Classical composers, stylistic trends of the era, and performing artists. COURSE OBJECTIVES At the completion of the course the student will be able to: 1. 2. Sight read simple intermediate solo literature. Practice effectively, using critical analysis to synthesize previously learned musical concepts and skills. 3 Aurally identify musical patterns and structures presented in Classical repertoire, for example, major, minor, diminished, and augmented triads. 4. Research Classical era piano literature. 5. Identify Classical era piano stylistic traits. 6. Demonstrate two octave scales in quarter and eighth note rhythms (m= 80-100). COURSE CONTENT: (In detail; attach additional information as needed and include percentage breakdown) 20 % Developing musicianship skills and concepts for performing intermediate level literature by extended study in the pedal – Una corda and Damper pedaling techniques 5 % Studying pieces using more advanced rhythms involving shifting meters and accents, 50 15 10 syncopated patterns. Performing early intermediate level solo repertoire pieces containing scale passages and varied broken and arpeggiated bass figures. % Practicing functional activities that include sight reading early intermediate repertoire and composing projects using folk/traditional melodies or an original melody to create variations in AB, ABA forms. % Developing analytical skills through written activities and the study of techniques for expressive performance. % METHODS OF INSTRUCTION Lecture, demonstration and rehearsal, collaborative learning, research, performance evaluation, group and individual practice.
