COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provides piano instruction for the continuing pianist with emphasis on reading and demonstration of
melodic and rhythmic notation, theoretical concepts, and simple elementary piano repertoire in the keys of C
Major, G Major, F Major, D Major, & Bb Major.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:

Read and demonstrate on sight simple, hands together, elementary repertoire.
Demonstrate reading of pitch notation outside of the grand staff up to two octaves above and below
middle C.
3. Demonstrate ability to play elementary compositions requiring shifts of hand position.
4. Demonstrate indirect pedaling while playing elementary pieces.
5. Critically listen to and evaluate piano performance recordings.
6. Demonstrate rhythmic patterns.
7. Demonstrate knowledge of key signatures, intervals, simple and complex time signatures, and tempo
markings.
