Past Perfect Tense
The past perfect is used to indicate a situation that existed or an event that
occurred prior to a time in the past.
e.g.
Maria hadn’t spoken English before last year.
I hadn’t begun to take my bath when the phone rang.
The students had finished their homework by the time the teacher came.
