Structure
Future Continuous Tense with ‘will’ and ‘be going to’
(1) When you want to express a prediction (a statement about
something she/he thinks will be true or will occur in the future), you
can either use ‘will’ or ‘be going to’
For example:
Be careful! You ‘ll be hurt!
or Watch out! You ’re going to hurt yourself!
(2) When you want to express a Prior Plan ( something the speaker
intends to do in the future because in the past s/he has made a plan
or decision to do it ), only BE GOING TO is used.
For example:
I’m going to paint my bedroom tomorrow.
(3) When you want to express WILLINGNESS, only WILL can be used.
For example:
A: The phone’s ringing.
B: I’ll get it
Exercises:
Complete the sentences with will or be going to, as appropriate. Include
any words in parentheses.
1. A: What’s all this paint for? (You ) ___________ paint your house?
B: No, We __________paint my mother’s house.
2. A: Why did you buy so many tomatoes?
B: I __________make a lot of spaghetti sauce.
3. A: Someone needs to take this report to Mr. Day’s office right away,
but I can’t leave my desk.

4. A: Let’s make something easy for dinner. Got any ideas?
B: I __________make some hamburgers. Why don’t you make a
salad?
A: Sounds good.
