Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. (This section is used for advertisement of the position.) The Web Interface Designer within Integrated Marketing reports to the Manager, Application Development. The Web Interface Designer is primarily responsible for designing website user interfaces (“front-end” development) using modern development techniques and forward-thinking strategy. The position seeks to balance aesthetic design with robust usability, offering website visitors a better experience when trying to find information online. The position also consults on the integration of web-based technologies and manages student interns as needed. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 70% - Website and Interface Design Conceptualize individual website elements and whole interface designs, both independently and in collaboration with colleagues Develop prototypes using HTML, CSS and JavaScript that function in a web browser Confirm that prototypes work across web browsers, devices and platforms Work with colleagues and customers to ensure prototype designs are properly translated in the content management system Investigate college/department needs and objectives in order to develop appropriate interfaces to meet website objectives 20% - Website Strategy and Planning Collaborate with Integrated Marketing colleagues in planning and strategizing websites that achieve organizational objectives Analyze available data to make informed interface design decisions Assess and optimize the usability of new and existing websites Maintain and expand the consistent look, tone and feel of websites across campus 10% - Research, Development and Training Research other institutions to assess best practices in higher education web design Stay up to date on industry-wide design trends and standards Stay up to date on web standards (HTML5, CSS3) and best practices Manage student interns as needed 3.
