Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Station Manager. KUNR, provides policy and operations oversight for all aspects of KUNR public
radio, including budgets, personnel, community and university relations, radio expansion planning,
and development. The incumbent serves as the face of the radio station to the community, with an
emphasis on responsibilities related to liaison with community, government and business leaders, and
donor and membership development. The position works closely with on-air staff, outside consultants
and other resources in the development and acquisition of programming, emphasizing community
analysis. It reports to the Vice President for Information Technology.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide

35% Day-to-Day Station Operations
 Evaluate, streamline and improve station processes and systems
 Analyze ratings and listener/member feedback and develop/adjust programming to meet the
needs of KUNR listeners
 Work with staff to ensure appropriate, professional on-air product
 Prepare annual and long-range programming/operations plans
 Oversee the exploration and implementation of new technologies to maintain a consistent,
high-quality technical sound
 Through advance planning and appropriate communication, minimize equipment and station
operation emergencies; handle urgent issues that arise in a timely and effective manner
 Maintain appropriate contacts with local and remote communities; prioritize and coordinate
resources to provide required technical expertise and equipment for all transmitter/translator
sites
40% External Relations
 Ensure appropriate, regular communication with members; respond to inquiries, concerns or
complaints in a professional and timely manner
 Oversee and/or execute effective grant-writing and fundraising campaigns, including the major
on-air membership campaigns
 Serve as a spokesperson for the station, developing partnerships and liaisons with arts,
funding, government and business groups
 Prepare and deliver KUNR educational/promotional presentations to community groups
 Represent the station on a policy and legislative level with state agencies, the university,
professional and regulatory organizations
25% Planning and Administration
 Provide leadership for a collaborative, innovative team environment
 With appropriate collaboration, develop strategic, business and marketing vision and plans
 Supervise on-air, technical and administrative staff including hiring, training, development,
performance evaluation, and discipline
 Allocate staff and resources for maximum productivity
 Monitor underwriting, grant, and membership receipts to ensure budget goals are met or
expenditures are adjusted

Plan and execute yearly budgets
Work with administrative staff to develop plans, tracking systems and measurements to ensure
weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual goals and deadlines are met
Complete surveys, audits, performance reports, and other information requirements to ensure
compliance and to meet University, Federal Communications Commission, Corporation for
Public Broadcasting, auditor, and other agency needs

supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Choices made have an immediate and lasting impact on the station's perception by its listeners and
donors. KUNR reaches an audience across Northern Nevada and Northeastern California, influencing
their perceptions about the University as well as opinions on local and national issues. Decisions and
judgments, whether about programming, operations or community relations, clearly and directly
impact user and advertiser support of the station, which receives minimal support from state funds.
Thus, the continued viability and existence of the station is affected by decisions of the station
manager.
