Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Research Analyst conducts research in support of grant and contract projects awarded to the Department of Resource Economics under the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources (CABNR). The Research Analyst collects and analyzes data using statistical models employed by economists, sociologists, and agricultural scientists; and manages the faculty research agendas. The goals of the projects are to examine how individuals value and make decisions regarding the use of natural, agricultural, and business resources, primarily in the state of Nevada, and to examine the economic impacts of such decisions. Additional project goals are to examine economic development in the state of Nevada with particular interest in how health care, education, employment and land use impact the state and local economies. This position reports to the Principal Investigator on the projects. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 45%- New Data Collection and Research Collect data required for sponsored research projects using surveys, data and model development firms, and other sources Assist in developing and designing surveys Implement surveys Verify, validate, document and organize data 45%- Statistical Modeling and Data Analysis Work with faculty to analyze data according to modeling approaches consistent with sponsored research projects relating to economic development research Synthesize results into technical papers, presentations, and fact sheets for disseminating results in academic and other outlets 15% - Manage Faculty Research Agenda Supervise and train student workers on survey mailings, data management and statistical applications Ensure timelines and deadlines for faculty projects are met Prepare IRB applications for faculty projects involving human subjects and ensure all IRB requirements are satisfied Assist with proposal writing 3. Level of Freedom: The Research Analyst is assigned multiple tasks and/or extended projects and is expected to know how to proceed with minimal instruction.
