1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Functional Analyst/Quality Control Specialist (Business and Finance/Controller’s Office) is
responsible for ensuring data integrity in the PeopleSoft Student System for student accounting
(cashier’s and loan office) functions. This position conducts functional systems testing, troubleshoots
functional problems, and creates and runs quality control reports and other system queries for data
extraction. This position works closely with the Manager of Student Accounting, the Business Data
Analyst and Information Technology (IT) to ensure timely and efficient solutions for all softwarerelated functional needs within the student system. The position reports to the Manager, Student
Accounting.

50% - Data Integrity/Quality Control
 Maintain and oversee data integrity including management and quality control of student
accounts and fee payments
 Troubleshoot functional problems, making a determination if the problem is functional or
technical
 Coordinate technical issues with the Manager of Student Accounting and the Business Data
Analyst
 Write and run quality control reports aimed at error detection and resolution within the Student
Accounting areas using the PeopleSoft student system
 Assure error resolution among Student Accounting staff
 Conduct Student Accounting system functional testing
 Design and run system queries for identifying system data integrity errors
 Ensure compliance with government technical reporting standards, oversees external data
transmission to third party governmental agencies, e.g. Dept. of Education, Dept. of Defense,
etc.
 Assist with staff training in Student Accounting in the functional use of the student information
software
 Assist with the analysis of workflow within Student Accounting to ensure maximum data
integrity
 Assist with the evaluation of effectiveness of Student Accounting workflow
 Assist with identifying necessary changes in operating policies and procedures as a result of
software limitations/capabilities
 Assist with the management of Student Accounting web applications
25% - Support Student Accounting Office Functions
 Facilitate updating of specific student billing records
 Develop reports for third party billing
 Prepare for test system updates prior to implementation
 Develop specific regular reports to facilitate administrative and accounting office needs (i.e.,
bank reconciliation and fee distribution)
 Develop ad hoc reports based upon specific data requests by administration.

25% - Data Extraction/Assessment
 Extract data that assists in determining the effectiveness of student information system
functional user productivity in Student Accounting
 Assist with the development of reports to be used by campus end users
 Oversee the accuracy of ongoing operational data to support Student Accounting
 Assist and support the Manager of Student Accounting by providing data to make decisions
about improvement of Student Accounting functional processes
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
This position exercises independent judgment in the development and implementation of
methodologies that support quality control and data integrity. Technical knowledge and decision
making is applied to resolve problems and create queries to support the goals of the position. The
Analyst makes recommendations and reviews opportunities with the Manager, Student Accounting.
The Manager will be consulted in the assignment of projects, reporting needs and goals for the
position.
Level of Impact:
The effectiveness of Student Accounting is dependent upon producing accurate and timely data. The
impact of inattention to data integrity directly affects the university’s ability to bill and collect student
fees. Failure to provide accurate and timely data could result in the inability of the office to collect
student fees. Failure to identify functional user errors could result in high error rates in data entry and
delays in processing student billings and payments, resulting in student dissatisfaction and loss of
cash flow. The reporting of inaccurate information to federal and state agencies could result in the
loss of Title IV for the University.
