ADMINISTRATIVE FACULTY JOB DESCRIPTION APPROVED POSITION INFORMATION (to be completed by HR) Effective: May 1, 2015 Title Range JCC 2 67672 Research Analyst, Native Seeds Essential Function: Sedentary Work Description: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. 1. The Research Analyst, Native Seeds conducts research in support of sage grouse habitat restoration grants and contract projects awarded to the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources (CABNR). The Research Analyst collects and analyzes data using statistical models employed by economists, sociologists, and agricultural scientists. The goals of the project are to assess Nevada native plant and seed demand and supply, assess the feasibility of Nevada native plant and seed production, investigate growth potential for the Nevada native plant and seed industry, and conduct industry development and growth through producer education. If line of progression, define for each range as above. 20% - Project Planning and Management Revisit past projects and research relevant recent work Create detailed project management scheme Supervise and train and graduate and student researcher(s) on survey implementation, data management, and statistical methods Research and determine specific outcomes to measure and evaluate as determined by project needs 50% - Data Collection, Statistical and Feasibility Analysis Estimate demand and supply for Nevada-produced plants and seeds with usage specific to sage grouse habitat restoration and secondary markets Develop, design and implement mail, online, and in-person surveys Verify, validate, document and organize data 1 Research Analyst, CABNR Estimate costs of start-up and operation, processing, storage, marketing and distribution for native plant and seed production in Nevada Identify and evaluate existing or potential financial or policy mechanisms that promote or hinder a native-seed and plant propagation industry in the state of Nevada. 30% - Reporting and Outreach Synthesize collected data and research into papers, technical reports, and UNCE fact sheets Organize biannual producer educational events with regional partners Develop and deliver presentations to producers at educational events 3. The Research Analyst is assigned multiple tasks and/or extended projects and is expected to know how to proceed with minimal instruction. The position determines the data collection and analyses techniques to measure the impact to farmers statewide as the result of growing different native seeds. The position assigns tasks to graduate and student assistants to support the data collection, analyses, and reporting procedures. 4. The Research Analyst will keep the Dean apprised of instrument development, data collection issues (i.e., low response rates), and data types that that could impact the study’s outcomes.
