Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Director, University Police Services, acts as the primary law enforcement official for the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), ensuring that UNR, University Police Services, and associated entities are provided with adequate protective services to ensure a safe and secure environment. This position is responsible for all facets and functions of the University Police, including but not limited to, development for planning and budget, formulating policy, allocation of resources, supervision of staff, law enforcement discretion, as well as liaison with other law enforcement agencies, media, students, faculty and staff. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 50% - Administration Administers all law enforcement, traffic and other safety and security-related matter designed to reduce liability to the university and its administrative officers, protect UNR and system property, and provide a safe and secure environment of the university population 15% - Management of Human Resources, Fiscal, and Resource Allocation Plan operational activities of all department personnel, special operations, major events, disaster planning Conduct financial planning and analysis including budgeting, financial projections and statistical analysis Schedule department members Supervise and evaluate management and supervisory personnel Allocate resources for department 15% - Public and interpersonal relations Maintain public and interpersonal relations with UNR officials, civic officials, news media representatives, and government administrative officers up to and including the national level Coordinate activities with other jurisdictions 10% - Organizational Activities Act as Operational Commander for large-scale activities 10% - Policy/Program Development Initiate and update Department procedures, standards and performances levels 3. There is a high level of visibility in internal and external relations between law enforcement personnel and the university community which impact UNR’s reputation. The position establishes the appropriate level of protective services to ensure a safe and secure environment and regulates the degree of protective services available to the university and it population. Impact: Decisions, judgments, and results of work performed by this position impact the degree of liability facing UNR and State administrative officers. Poor decisions can negatively affect the public’s perception of the university and its reputation. 4.
