Description: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently,
and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Light work requires walking or standing
to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling.

The Director, University Math Center is responsible for the administration and oversight of
Center operations, financial and human resource management, and center activities. The
Director is accountable for meeting performance measures and making necessary adjustments
to meet strategic and operational objectives. The Director manages all aspects of the Math
Center to ensure effective math support to undergraduate students. This position provides
mathematics curriculum and placement recommendations to the Provost’s Office, Core
Curriculum Board, departments and colleges, NSHE, and the local school district and
community as it relates to the types of support provided by the University Math Center.

75% - Center Oversight
 Manage operations of Center, which provides mathematics support to undergraduate
and graduate students in connection with their coursework, research, service-learning,
internships, and other co-curricular activities
 Oversee recruitment, training, mentoring, and performance of Math Center
undergraduate tutors and graduate TAs.
 Serve as a tutor during peak demand periods when regular staff are fully scheduled
 Supervise and evaluate effectiveness of professional and State classified staff and
student employees
 Oversee budget and make budget decisions regarding operating expenses
 Oversee administration of mathematics placement testing provided within the Math
Center
 Coordinate the maintenance of Math Center computational equipment, specialized
software procurement, and related technology resources

15% - Program Assessment and Reporting
 Work with ASUN regarding aligning services of the Math Center with their expectations
 Oversee assessment of the University Math Center to determine that its mission and
goals are being achieved
 Assess effectiveness of Math Center strategies, training, mentoring, workshops, etc.
 Provide an annual report to the Student Fee Governing Board that explains usage,
assessments, and goals. Provide special reports on Math Center performance to the
Vice Provost as requested.
10% - Undergraduate Mathematics Coordination and Outreach
 Work with ASUN regarding aligning services of the Math Center with the expectations
and needs of undergraduate students
 Maintain knowledge of national research and best practices in mathematics education
and effectiveness of support services
 Work with academic faculty to align math center resources and training with course
content
 Upon request or as needed, alert academic faculty to student mathematics performance
problems
 Core Board participation as requested by the Provost’s Office
 Provide advice and assistance with issues surrounding assessment of General
Education mathematics
 Participate in NSHE, Complete College America, and other general education
mathematics workshops and initiatives

The Director oversees the personnel, finances, assessment and research, and university and
community outreach of the University Math Center. The Director must effectively recruit, hire,
train, and mentor all Math Center staff. The Director must make budgetary decisions including
funds allocated for wages and other expenses for the Math Center; a report to the Student Fee
Governing Board is presented each year for the student fee portion of the Math Center budget.
The Director identifies assessment and research opportunities within the Math Center and in
collaboration with other University programs as well as community organizations. The Director
provides outreach within the university regarding the Math Center Incumbent must work
independently, creatively, and efficiently with little direct supervision and with considerable
latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Actions that require additional financial support, beyond what has been budgeted for that fiscal
period, advocating for additional space allocations as the Math Center grows, and certain
assessment or research may require the supervisor’s support and/or consultation.
