Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Associate Vice President, Finance and Operations for Development and Alumni Relations (AVP FO, DAR) has campus-wide responsibility for administering all gifts made to the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and all its related non-profits and reports to the Vice President DAR. This position also serves as the Treasurer of the Foundation and reports to the Executive Director of the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation (UNRF) in this capacity. This position, under UNRF bylaws, oversees the budgetary and fiscal affairs of the UNRF. The AVP FO works closely with the Foundation’s Executive Committee, Investment Committee, and Audit & Finance Committee to establish investment and financial related policies. The AVP FO oversees all areas of finance, including investments, accounting, budget, planning, audit and the development database as well as other administrative functions for the unit. 2. Level of Freedom: The development division is a large and complex organization with multiple external entities reporting through it. This position is expected to provide leadership in financial and administrative decisions as well as in development in order to ensure the success and credibility of the division and the Foundation. Additionally, as Chief Financial Officer this position serve as one of the three corporate officers who is directly responsible to the Trustees for all funds, securities, and other assets of the Foundation. The position reports to the Vice President DAR and works closely with the Associate Vice President DAR, but has a high degree of latitude for independent judgment and decision-making. Impact: The decisions and judgments made by this position impact the reputation and the credibility of the Foundation as well as the university. The central function of this position is a key to successful fundraising and consequently errors at this level impact the community’s perception of the Foundation’s and the division’s ability to be good stewards of donations. Failure to exercise good judgment can result in the loss of gift funding, audit penalties, fines and the loss of institutional reputation in the community. 4.
