1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Assistant Director, Statewide Initiatives, reports to the Associate Dean, Statewide Initiatives, and
acts as the primary administrator of the division and Project ECHO overseeing fiscal, budgetary,
personnel and grants management operations. The Assistant Director is the professional level
staffperson performing the analytical and administrative functions for the Associate Dean, and serves
as the l point of contact for Office of Statewide Initiatives (OSI) with the School of Medicine senior
management, the University of Nevada, Reno and Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE)
administration and the general public. The Assistant Director oversees the day-to-day operations of
OSI, and works closely with leadership on program and resource development.

45% - Department Administration
 Develop, prepare and maintain budgets for all Statewide Initiative units including grants,
contracts, foundation/donations, state, federal, local, and self-supporting funds
 Has signature authority for all division accounts and expenditures
 Ensure compliance with and implementation of university, federal and state policies
 Develop and/or review all contracts and agreements and process
 Review and assist with set-up and close-out of grants and contracts
 Oversee work of classified staff with regard to all division accounts to ensure sufficient funds
and compliance with appropriate policies
 Provide oversight of personnel including PAFs, annual contracts, recruitments and
terminations in the department
 Prepare reports and analyses as requested by Associate Dean
 Provide oversight of operations of remote offices in Elko and Las Vegas
30% - Physician Assistant (PA) Training Program Development
 In close collaboration with the Program Director and development team, coordinate and
manage fiscal planning for PA program (develop differential fee schedule; develop budget for
planning phase and on-going budgets; develop capital budget to fund physical premises)
 Manage planning process for physical location development by conducting needs assessment
for classrooms, labs, offices, etc.
 Coordinate and manage program development team by conducting regular meetings to
include UNSOM faculty and outside stakeholders
 Manage and oversee accreditation process in collaboration with Program Director and
development team
 Manage and oversee feasibility study in collaboration with Program Director and development
team
20% - Administration of Project ECHO
 Provide program administration of Project ECHO including fiscal and personnel management
 Oversee marketing activities including website development, social marketing, print
publications
 Work closely with Director and project staff on resource development and grant-writing

5% - Community Development/ Outreach
 Act as liaison to general public and participate on related boards and committees to build
partnerships
 Prepare and deliver presentations and other outreach efforts with stakeholders
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Assistant Director works under the general direction of the Associate Dean with the freedom to
take action and manage the daily operations of the projects and division. The position reports actions
to and consults with the Associate Dean on overall project deliverables and concerns.
Impact:
Decisions made and actions taken by the Assistant Director are a reflection on DHS and the
Associate Dean of the program. These actions have the potential for positive or negative
consequences regarding interactions with the public and with partner organizations. Failure to make
accurate judgments and analysis and implement appropriate actions would reflect poorly on UNSOM
and cause damage to relationships with partners and within the unit.
