Overview
This Social Studies/ Language Arts webquest promotes students to become more
involved and aware of their environment by researching/teaching other grade levels of
the dangers of global warming. Students will accomplish this task by becoming writers
and producing a video.
SS5CG1 The student will explain how a citizen’s rights are protected under the U.S. Constitution.
a. Explain the responsibilities of a citizen.
ELA5LSV2 The student listens to and views various forms of text and media in order to gather and share information, persuade others,
and express and understand ideas.
Critical Component: When responding to visual and oral texts and media (e.g., television, radio, film productions, and electronic media), the
student:
a. Demonstrates an awareness of the presence of the media in the daily lives of most people.
b. Evaluates the role of the media in focusing attention and in forming an opinion.
c. Judges the extent to which media provide a source of entertainment as well as a source of information.
Critical Component: When delivering or responding to presentations, the student:
a. Shapes information to achieve a particular purpose and to appeal to the interests and background knowledge of audience members.
b. Uses notes, multimedia, or other memory aids to structure the presentation.
c. Engages the audience with appropriate verbal cues and eye contact.
d. Projects a sense of individuality and personality in selecting and organizing content and in delivery.

S5E1 Students will identify surface features of the Earth caused by constructive and destructive processes.
b. Identify and find examples of surface features caused by destructive processes. Erosion (water—rivers and oceans, wind)
c. Relate the role of technology and human intervention in the control of constructive and destructive processes.
Examples include, but are not limited to Seismological studies
Flood control (dams, levees, storm drain management, etc.)

You and your production staff have been
sought out to help spread the important
message. You will all be investigators and
will become experts on global warming.
Your group will take on the roles of an
Environmental Campaigner, Futurologist,
and Environmental Consultant. Your job
is to research the causes, effects, and
solutions that are related to global
warming. You and your team will
produce an entertaining, yet informative
video to share with the whole school.
Remember in order to save the future of
our planet, you must make sure that
everyone becomes educated on the
issues ahead of us!
Process
Congratulations on being hired to produce a video warning everyone of the changes that need to be made for the future of
our world! It’s a big task to take on; however, I know that you and your team will do an excellent job. Here are some
guidelines to follow as you research and produce your movie!
•Read through your task thoroughly. Ask your executive producer (your teacher), if you have any questions or concerns.
•Carefully read through the evaluation provided. Make sure that you know what you are supposed to include in your video
before you start.
•Review all information provided for your job description. Take notes that could be beneficial to making your video. You may
also want to save pictures to include in your video. Complete the tasks set before you to gain more information.
•After your group has completed their job description, choose a genre for your video. Put your information together and
create a script for your video .
•Complete the writing process with your script.
•When the script is completed, rehearse for your video.

•After rehearsing, you will begin to record /create your video.
•You will use Windows Movie Maker to complete and edit your movie.
•Once your movie is completed, turn it into your teacher. Your movie will be broadcasted over our school TV’s during Earth
Week.
• Reflect on what you learned through this assignment. Complete the questions on the conclusion page in your journal.

Job Description:
You will raise awareness about what is causing the environmental
problems we are facing.
Your job is to find as much research as you can about the CAUSES of global
warming. This job is very important!! Without knowing the causes, we will not
be able to figure out ways to put a stop to global warming! As you find out more
and more information, write down ideas and facts that you receive. Complete
the KWL chart provided to you in class as you watch the global warming video.

Conclusion
Great Job! Now that you have spread the word, it’s time for you to step up to the plate. Here is a list

1. Do a self evaluation of your own contributions to our environment. In your journal, create a
list of ways you can conserve resources.
2. After you have made your list, interview your parents to find out their concerns about global
warming.
3. Compare and combine your list with your parent’s/adult’s list to establish a final Conservation
Plan for you and your family.
4. In a creative way, present your Conservation Plan to your class.
