Electronic Systems (eGIF)
 eGIF was created in Fall 2006 for LSA faculty in the
Humanities Division to help them find funding.
 Summer 2008 it was opened up for the Natural Sciences and
Social Sciences
 eGIF will help faculty find and request internal funding for
research, fellowships, subventions, conferences, or various
types of cost-sharing.
 eGIF is available to:
 LSA Tenure / Tenure - Track Faculty
 LSA Research Faculty
 LSA Graduate Students

 eGIF will run with Firefox, Internet Explorer and Chrome.
Firefox is probably the best choice.
 Safari on Mac’s will not run eGIF!!!

GIF - Internal Funding -What does the departmental signature mean?
• That all applicable documents and budget as required are included in proposal and the department supports the PI
carrying out the research as proposed in the budget.
• That all required commitments are addressed either as a commitment in the budget justification or in the
comments section
• That the proposal meets the funding criteria of the funding source (Information on LSA Funding opportunities
can be found at:http://www.lsa.umich.edu/research/funding/lsafundingsources
• That the application has been completed in accordance with the funding sources criteria and LSA
recommendations(http://www.lsa.umich.edu/research/lsagatewaytointernalfundinge
gif/ci.egifapplicationexamples_ci.detail)
Who Can Sign for the Department?
The Chair or Associate Chair are the designated signers.. The person signing should represent the department for
research, space, resources and monetary commitments. The department should have a business process where chair
delegates signature authority when they are unavailable.
