This presentation will examine the basics of health care fraud and abuse
law from the perspective of an experienced U. S. Department of Justice
Attorney. With direct billing a subject of substantial interest with the
membership, some knowledge of the laws and penalties regulating health care
finance is important to make an informed decision. The Hon. Peter Winn,
Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, will
present the main talk. Mr. Winn's career has centered on health care fraud
and abuse prosecutions in Texas and Washington. In addition to his present
position with the Department of Justice, he also teaches health care law at
the University of Washington School of Law.
