Each classroom teacher regularly assesses student academic performance and adapts instruction and content to meet the needs of the student. The NCSD identifies and provides appropriate instructional services for students identified as academically talented in mathematics or reading, or for students identified as intellectually gifted. A student is defined asacademically talented or intellectually gifted if he or she is able to score at or above the 97th percentile (higher than 97% of the test population) on a standardized norm-referenced test. Additional evidence is also required to show exemplary performance that will support a student’s achievement on a standardized assessment. For further information, contact your student’s classroom teacher and/or principal. Changing After School Plans? To help ensure the safety of all our children, please always send a signed and dated note detailing your child’s after school change of plans. This includes riding home with a friend, riding a different bus or having a parent pick them up. We know last minute changes are sometimes necessary. Please make every effort to call the school office prior to 2:30 PM if at all possible. Thank you for understanding how important it is for us to know where all our students are going after school. If your child is going to be absent, please call the office before 9:00 am and let us know. Thank you! 503-353-3250 Help! We already have many coats, sweatshirts, sweaters and lunch boxes in the Lost and Found. We would love to return them to you. Please label your children’s items so they can be easily identified. Parents can check student’s meal accounts anytime at: https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ All you need is your student ID# number. This number is on your child’s report cards or you may contact the office. Elementary meal prices for 2015/16 are: Prices: Breakfast $1.95 Lunch $2.90 Milk $0.50 Why does my child have a sheep stamp on his or her hand? This means their lunch account balance is less than $10.00. Friday Morning Meeting Mark your Calendars! On many Fridays, we enjoy Friday Morning Meeting (FMM) in the gym at 8:35 am. This is a time to come together as a school, maybe learn a dance, sing a song, share good news, present awards, etc. Please wear your Scouters Mountain T-shirts or a green shirt for a chance to win a class popcorn party! Mark your calendars! Here are the dates: 10/2, 10/16, 11/6, 11/20, 12/11, 1/8, 1/22, 2/5, 2/19, 3/4, 4/1, 4/22, 5/6, 5/20 Remember that ALL VISITORS MUST SIGN IN (even if we know you well) and grab a badge when coming in to the school during morning drop off, as well as during the school day. No matter how well we may know you and your family, it is important that we know who is in the building for the safety of our students and visitors, should an emergency occur. If you need to drop something off for your student, you may leave it in the office and we can get it to them. This helps reduce classroom distractions. Thank you very much for helping to keep our school safe! Write To The School If You Wish To Keep Student Information Private The District is authorized to disclose directory information unless parents, guardians, or students 18 or older notify the District to withhold this information. Directory information includes that which is not considered to be harmful or an invasion of privacy, such as: name, address, telephone listing, date and place of birth, participation in sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, attendance, degrees, and awards. Schools may publish quality student work or may videotape students for films or television shows. A student’s name or photograph may appear in a District publication or on a District web site. Parents/guardians may write to the Principal to request that directory information, student information to military or colleges (high school students only), or student work and images not be released or used in publications, web sites, or films. This needs to be done annually. Parent Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures: Student safety is one of our top priorities! Please follow these procedures when dropping off or picking up your child at school. ! ! ! •! ! •! ! •! ! •! ! •! We have a student loading zone that follows the sidewalk all along the front of the building. This is a large area and should allow for our traffic to move safely and efficiently. Students may exit or enter their car from any place along this marked "Student Loading Zone" by walking along the sidewalk to or from their car. Please have students exit or enter the car from the passenger side so that they are not entering into a traffic lane. ! This Student Loading Zone is marked in yellow. Please DO NOT park in the student loading zone. Think like the airport: Active loading and unloading only. When you are ready to go, please pull out into the traffic lane. Vehicles in this traffic lane should move slowly through to the exit and should not be stopping to let students in or out of the vehicle. Please keep a close eye out for families walking through the parking lot. If you want to walk your child into school, you must park in one of the marked parking spaces and walk your child across the cross walk. Children will not be allowed to cross the parking lot without an adult in attendance. DO NOT stop and load or unload students in the cross walk zone. For the most efficient use of our loading zone, please pull as far ahead as you can, past the entrance. The loading zone goes all the way up to the end of the parking lot divider (by the black benches). Thank you for following these procedures to help keep all of our students (and drivers) safe and on time for school! A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR PARENTS THAT ARE ABLE TO VOLUNTEER ON FIELD TRIPS THIS YEAR! District policy states that all field trip volunteers will need to complete a criminal history form. By following this procedure, we ensure the safety of our students. Your participation in this activity is greatly appreciated. Thank you for completing the additional paperwork! The good news is that these forms only need to be completed once every three years and are good for all schools in the district. This paper work can be found on the district web site under the “Parent” tab and then choose “Volunteers”. Forms are also available in the office. Questions? Please call the office 503-353-3250. “БОЛЬШОЕ СПАСИБО родителям, которые в качестве волонтеров смогут сопровождать нас на экскурсиях в этом году!
