What We Learned
This Week…
Math – This month we have been reviewing place value,
delving into the millions and billions periods, and learning
about decimals. We also reinforced our problem solving
skills by using the guess and check strategy.

Reading – We kicked the year off by creating book
commercials to share some of our favorite books. This
week we started book clubs. We have been practicing
reading strategies and building good reading habits.
Writing – We began gathering ideas in our Writer’s
Notebooks and exploring different types of writing. We
also learned about the steps to becoming a successful
writer, which we will use in our upcoming writing units.
Science – We launched our pond life unit by discussing
ecosystems and habitats. We also used magnifiers and
microscopes to explore macroscopic and microscopic
organisms found in the different layers of a pond.
