Ms. Hurt’s th 4 Grade Classroom News November 5, 2015 MATH: The students will use place value understanding and properties of multiplication in order to solve problems. They will illustrate and explain calculations by using equations, arrays, and/or area models. Students focused on using the Partial Product strategy to solve problems. This next week, we will be using 2 digit by 2/3 digit multiplication to solve a variety of problems. MESSAGES: Please look for the Parent-Teacher Conference forms in your child’s Red Folder. Nov.21 Early Release @12:50 November 23 STAR STUDENTS: Saioa& Kevin Kevin is a great listener in class. This enables him to follow directions and complete his work accurately. He is a dependable friend! Saioa’s mood and disposition are always cheery. She is easy to be around because of her good spirits and pleasant outlook affect others with enthusiasm! READING & LANGUAGE ARTS Students understand how to use text structures to identify important information in nonfiction text. The common text structures are Description (main idea/details), Chronological (sequence), Comparison (compare/contrast), Problem/ Solution and Cause/Effect. We will be working on context clues and summarization this next week. Students will need to choose and read a short nonfiction textbook to use for their Oral Language speeches for the month of November. Students are working on different text structures in their TAG groups. This will be the last week for this rotation. The students will then apply their taught skills in an interest based project. Students will be working on a descriptive, explanatory text that examines a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES NOTES: The students learned to identify slow processes that change the earth’s surface. We will learn to identify and explain different resources that are found on the earth. Then we will move onto identification of rocks & minerals. We will be starting our unit on the Northeast region.
