Communications Picture Days We are doing our best to ensure that communications from school are as effective as possible. Monday, 10/11 and Tuesday, 10/12, are Torey J. picture days. Please check your e-mail for the schedule to see which day your child is having their picture taken. One great source of communication is the district website. This contains everything from curriculum to school closing information. Each teacher at TJS has their own website within the district website and publish a monthly newsletter chronicling their classroom news and progress. For quite a few years, Julie Geyer has been good enough to organize and run the picture operation for the TJS PTO and we’d like to thank her for a job well done. Thank you, Mrs. Geyer! In addition to the website, a newsletter from the school is published twice monthly and many important bits of information are sent out when the need arises from the school and the PTO. The vast majority of communication is through e-mail. Please see Mrs. Empson to add e-mail addresses or make changes to the e-mail addresses we have on file. Madison Public School District Mission Statement The Madison School District will inspire and challenge all students to be life-long learners, empowered with the knowledge, skills, and character to shape their futures, realize their dreams, and contribute positively to the world. PTO Thanks to the TJS PTO, our students have cultural arts assemblies, educational enrichment presentations, awesome art and a number of school and playground improvements. This all is made possible by the efforts of parent volunteers. The school could not prosper as it does without these efforts. Please consider pitching in and contributing to the PTO. There are all sorts of jobs, large and small, lasting all year or one day. Whatever you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Thank you PTO! Dismissal Issues Whenever your child is altering their dismissal pattern, please send a note into the teacher and the main office. In fact, an e-mail to the office is often the best measure to take. We account for each of our students and how they are getting home. Your help in keeping us “in the loop” is much appreciated. If a child does not have a note from a parent informing us of a change, they will either be held at the office or be sent on their typically prescribed mode of transportation. Dismissal at TJS can be a frenetic experience. We have more than one exit and parents can have their children go home in a number of ways. We are trying our best to make that process safe by insisting that we are made aware of your family’s dismissal intentions. We can then help out accordingly. Thank you! Parking Lot Torey J. has its physical idiosynhracies. One of them is a parking lot that is very inviting to walk through. Please help us to set a safe example for your child and walk on our sidewalks. Even once you have left the official property, please adhere to safety rules and stay out of the street until crossing. When crossing the street, please only cross at the crosswalk. Our crossing guard in that area, Tony, is a strong advocate for our school and for a safe environment. Please follow his lead and cross with him in the appointed area. Thank you! Classroom Systems E-Alerts How to register for the Madison Public Schools Website, and sign up to receive E-alerts. 1. Back to School Night Thanks to everyone...parents, teachers and support staff, for a wonderful 2010 back to school night. It was a great turn out and it was nice seeing all of you parents enjoying your time with the teachers, getting to know them and your children’s new classroom. We are very proud of our school, and of the staff that capably teaches and cares for our students day and day out. We are also very grateful to have such a supportive parent community. Thank you for a great night and we look forward to a wonderful school year. Thank you, School Beautification Committee The TJS school beautification committee has worked tirelessly to make our school a prettier, more welcoming environment. When you are at the school, please notice the lovely forsythia that now line our sidewalks and the perennial bed near the Woodland Road entrance. The walk to Woodland Road has been enhanced with ornamental grasses and lilac bushes. Hundreds of daffodil bulbs have been planted throughout the property with the help of our Daisy Troop. Look for their yellow flowers in the spring. On top of all of this, take note of the pots by our entrance doors. They are a welcomed sight. Our committee is headed by Leigh Bolt and Laura Baisch. Thanks go to them and their many helpers. Our school has benefitted from their efforts. TJS Enrichment Each of the schools in Madison is developing an enrichment committee comprised of parents and staff to plan the direction of whole school enrichment activities. This committee will meet several times a year to review the opportunities that exist for the entire student body that enrich and supplement the curriculum. Present examples of these opportunities are educational enrichment, cultural arts and the drama club. Parents who are interested should contact Mrs. Empson via e-mail (empsonj@madisonpublicschools.org). The first two interested parents to contact the school will be the parent representatives of the committee. Thank you! Thank you! We take pride at in TJS in having a clean, attractive school. Three unsung heroes are instrumental in keeping our school an inviting place for students, parents and staff. Joe Cecala (our head custodian), Pat DeNegri and Dennis Keelty work tirelessly to make our school a welcoming, comfortable place for everyone. All summer long, these men worked intensely to clean and shine the school and throughout the year they maintain it beautifully. On top of their duties, they are all very kind, accommodating people. Thank you, gentlemen!
