– What is the purpose?
• To inform? To propose a change? To show
understanding?
– Who are the readers?
• Your lecturer? The general public? Children?
– What is the length of the text?
• A paragraph, a page or 100 pages?
– What do I know about the topic?
• None, a little, a lot? Do I need to find out more?
