The Dean and faculty in this academic area have successfully worked to develop a proposed BAS degree in
logistics.
The Advisory Board is active and plays an exemplary role in shaping curriculum.
Curriculum and activities are aligned to TMCC's Strategic Master Plan.
AA articulation agreement with UNR is well aligned with baccalaureate curriculum to support students who
transfer.
Program has moved recently to develop appropriate skills certificates in Real Estate and Bookkeeping.
Very active student club with faculty support also serves as a recruiting tool.
The Business Plan Competition is excellent and builds relationships with business community in addition to
creating visibility of program to potential students.
Class Fill Rates are good.
Faculty, both full- and part-time, are professionally experienced and capable.
Student demographics are appropriate.
Weaknesses:
•
•
•
•
•
Greater attention needs to be given to support for students to be fulltime ( 15 credits) through advising and
scholarships.
Assessment of courses is not complete at this time.
Program needs to track all graduates into the workplace.
Dean's Office provides suppon to academic unit since there is not a department chair or dedicated AA.
Potential retirements of tenured faculty are anticipated and may create some lack of stability in specializations.
Summary action recommended for program/unit: Continue
Recommendations for development strategics and anticipated time lines:
Ensure that a new tenure-track logistics professor is hired this year. Complete Fall 2015
omplete course assessment as required by TMCC. Spring 2016.
ogram requests a dedicated c lassroom for Accounting. When data indicate full use each class day for 12 hours, this
should be implemented. Analysis each year going forward
Vice President's Recommendation
Program must complete creation of all BAS upper division courses and gnin CAP approval. 20 I 5- I 6 year
rganizational structure is unusunl with no department chair or dedicated AA, and facully arc divided between
eadowood and Dandini campuses. Continue to analyze best structure and model for business faculty and program each
year going forward, including model of lead faculty on stipends ..
Continue to look for grants, contracts, and private gifts to support curriculum, scholarships, and potential centers to serve
community needs. Ongoing
Continue to explore needed partnerships with other academic programs in relation to entrepreneurship strategies.
Ongoing
Identify additional resources und/or uctions necessury from euch udministrative unit for implementation of
recommended development strategics:
Academic Affairs: Track need for potential faculty hires as retirements and program growth occur
Student Services: None
Finance: Support space and personnel needs when documented
Human Resources: Continue to advertise for part-time faculty pool, given pool's current small size.
Faculty Senate:
None
Other: IR may be able to assist with tracking of graduates into jobs.
Executive Summary:
siness has three transfer Associate of Art degrees in Business, Entrepreneurship, and Logistics Management. All are
articulated with UNR to provide a pathway for business students to attain the baccalaureate degree. It also currently has
two Associate of Applied Sciences degrees in Logistics Management and Business. There are four certificates of
achievement, and two skills certificates. An additional AAS and Certificate of Achievement in Culinary Arts
Entrepreneurship is scheduled to begin in Fall 2015. The program's work in proposing a BAS in Logistics Management in
partnership with Technical Sciences in response to workforce needs in Northern Nevada is to be commended. If approved
by the Board of Regents, this program will provide a valuable new entry point into jobs for AAS graduates. With a small
number of fulltime faculty and staff, Business Studies has created an excellent program which attracts students who persist
to completion. An Advisory Board is strong and very supportive, actively involved in curriculum development and
planning. Joint programs in entrepreneurship should continue to be explored as demanded by employers, as well as gifts,
grants, and external contracts in order to serve the needs of the business community.
