In Fall 2014 it was decided to
assess Outcome #2 to focus on
the oral skills of the students
participating in an oral interview,
as it was projected in the last
assessment of ITAL 113 for
Academic Year 2008-2009. Yet
again, the following core
indicators were used:
A total of 14 students from ITAL
113 submitted to an oral
inter\'iew one-on-one with the
instructor. An assessment tool
containing ten questions was
used for the assessment. In the
communication area the topics
were handled adequately but
minimally. The ideas, however
were clearly conveyed. They
required little effort to be
understood. In the accuracy area
2rammar mistakes were made
At an 80% accuracy response of
the core indicators used for the
interview, the levels for ITAL
113 are well above average and
therefore an effort should be
made to maintain such
percentages. The participants
seemed a bit more nervous than
usual, maybe because they
perceived the interview as a 'test'
of some sort. I believe that it
would be highly beneficial to get
the students more involved in
Outcome #1
Students will read, understand,
interpret and communicate
spoken and/or written Italian at
the elementary level.
Outcome# 2
Students will be able to identify
personal values and cultural
norms different than their own in
custom and usage.
Students will be able to
demonstrate their acquired
knowledge by earning a 70% or
above through examination
which will prove their ability to
read, \\Tile, speak and/or
comprehend at an elementary
level.
A culturakomparative approach
will be drawn throughout the
course. Students will be able to
demonstrate global and cultural
awareness by earning a 70% or
above through activities such as
research projects, pres~ntations
and examinations.
Avere, Essere and Stare, Present
tense, Present Progressive tense,
Demonstrative Adiectives.
