THEMES FOR GENDER EQUITY SESSIONS Gender Economic Empowerment and “Triple Crises” -what are the gendered impacts of recession and austerity budgets? Are improvements in gender equality reflection of a ‘race to the bottom’? Is care economy emerging as an alternative informal economy in context of high unemployment and intensification of reproductive work with austerity? How have women’s land rights, sustainable livelihoods and climate justice been affected? Gender, Epidemics and Recession – How has the global ‘triple crisis’ affected gender relations within relationships, particularly in terms of autonomy and sexuality? What are the impacts on HIV risk and violence against women? How are austerity budgets promoting productivity, effectiveness and sustainability in the public health sector? Are gender sensitive prevention efforts to address HIV, GBV and malnutrition being promoted and prioritized? Leadership, Participation and Rights – What are the expericences of human rights defenders in protecting economic and social rights? Is women’s participation and leadership in governance leading to innovations in rights focused policies? What are rights based and gender sensitive macro-economic policies for recovery? What are the tools available for gender focused assessment and monitoring of polices (eg. Gender budgeting,)? The Gender Equity sessions will open with a Roundtable on Gender Equality and Economic Crisis.
