AbstractID: 7396 Title: A Brief Description of the HDR Optimization Algorithm Used in
a Commercial Treatment Planning System
This paper describes an HDR dwell-time optimization algorithm implemented in a commercial treatment planning system. In many
ways this algorithm is quite different from those commonly used in similar products and has its unique features and advantages. An
iteration procedure similar to the Tikhonov regularization method is followed to solve the singular equations, referred to as the “illposed compensating problem”. Thanks to a good choice of the initial values, within only a few iterations, the procedure quickly results
in a stable and smooth solution. A sample clinical plan, calculated using this algorithm for a prostate HDR case, is provided.
