a. cd /data/scratch/kal
5. Select MiniMosaic number from hard copy map;
a. Select associated tiles
b. Copy tiles to working directory
i. cd /data/scratch/kal/MiniMosaic
ii. cp -r /data/minimos/mm_”mosaic number”/* .
iii. use: xv mm_03.jpg &
to preview minimosaic
iv. Delete all 250 files – rm *250*
c. Run geolocation script (creates *.hdr world file for corner cords and pixel
size)
i. ./miniconverter
1. this creates the .hdr file and the .hrw file
6. Copy tiles
a. First check directory – pwd
i. cd /data/scratch/kal/TileOverviews
ii. cp –r /data/scratch/smather/TileOverviews/ss07-09/
1. note: no * after ss07-09/
.
Load corresponding “TILE(s)” into viewer which are saved on a DVD.
b. First make a new directory in “FROSTY” – mkdir “tile name”
c. Run geolocation script
i. cp tileconverter ss07-09/
ii. ./tileconverter
.
7. Import – into Imagine
i. From Imagines’ main tool bar –
1. TYPE – “ENVI (Direct READ)”
2. MEDIA TYPE – “File”
3. FILE TYPE – ENVI (*.hdr)
4. INPUT FILE – “MiniMosaic” – “mm_02_10.hdr” or for
“Tileoverview” IMG_0.hdr
a. Rename output to file name like “ss_10-12”
b. Click OK
i. Click OK
8. Load into viewer and set projection
a. Set Projection
i. Open Image into Imagine
Note: use “Data Scaling” to adjust brightness – find under “RASTER”
ii. Hit the image info button
1. EDIT
a. CHANGE MAP MODLE –
i. Change the units to meters
ii. Change projection to “Polar stereographic”
b. ADD CHANGE PROJECTION….. – from
projection choose “WGS 84 – for both Spheroid and
Datum
i. Latitude of true scale – “-71” then hit return
to set it, then click OK, finally click YES
2. Close Image and save it by clicking YES twice
9. Link viewers
a. View tool bar
b. View
c. Link-unlink –Geographical
i. Use the “special” curser that is produced and click in the “other”
viewer…..this links the two.
Note: to recenter use the button with a circle in it – it is located in the “Viewer #1:”
window (this is the third working window)
10. Identify common points on the images.
a. Points on image should be highly recognizable
b. Take 5 points at different ends of the image
11. Take snapshot of screen (name with point ID)

Hit the “Print Screen” Key board Button
Use IrFan as Pix editor
Antarctica Reference Pix found at ……/kal/MammOverview
IrFan view in start menu
12. Record the following in excel
a. Point ID
b. MiniMosaic and Tile overview names
c. X & Y (polar stereographic coordinates)
d. Calculate offset
e. Link to jpg
13. Create PowerPoint
14. Evaluate offsets per MiniMosaic
15. Attempt shift by changing corner coordinates in Imagine
16. Evaluate offsets in transformed image
17. If successful modify *.map file
18. Clean up
a. Save images to DVD (Tileoverviews and MiniMosaics on separate disc)
b. rm –r “name of directory” example ss10-12
c. rm –r (removes everything in current directory)
