Reading Comprehension Strategy: Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) Appropriate Grade Level: 4th-6th Grades Procedures/Steps: 1.) Preview * Click – Understood Information Clunks – What I did not understand a. Learn as much about the passage __________________________________ as possible in 2-3 minutes __________________________________ b. Make predictions about what they Get the Gist – Meaning of text will learn __________________________________ 2.) Click and Clunk __________________________________ a. When the student is finished reading, they go back and try to figure out the “clunks”. 3.) Get the Gist a. This is when the student understands and can state the main point of what they just read. b. They should be able to restate what happened. 4.) Wrap Up a. This is done when students learn to formulate and answer questions about what they learned, and review key ideas. Comments and/or Tips: The goal of all of this is to improve students’ knowledge, understanding, and memory of what they read.
