qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwert yuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopas dfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghjkl zxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwerty 2009 學海研習報告 uiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcv 中文報告 bnmqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopas 赫爾大學 dfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmq 學生:李季紋 cvbnmqwertyuiopas wertyuiopasdfghjklzx dfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghjkl zxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbn mqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwer tyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopa sdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghjk lzxcvbnmrtyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmq wertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyui opasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdf 出發第一天印象最深刻的地方是到荷蘭機場 「通關時候被搜全身的可怕經 驗」，由於這是第一次出國又加上聽不懂海關說的意思所以感到挫折，內心感到 懼怕差點不能搭機到赫爾。身上金屬的護身符所以無法順利過關，又加上搜身的 過程中摸到我的錢包，問我錢帶多少的疑惑表情，不過後來安全的上飛機來到赫 爾了。來到了赫爾，街道上的兩旁大都是民宅，我們大家和接機女士走在朝向超 市的路程中，看到的所有景色對我們而言都是新鮮的，所以大家蓄勢待發的不停 拍照和訝異，同時我們也發現交通方面和台灣不同，他們比較注重行人行走的權 利。看到行人要過馬路的時候駕駛者會停下，大部分他們不是開車就是搭乘公車。 提到我們這次的休憩之處，這次住的地方是 Bung.和以往的地方 Ferens 不同， 宿舍裡有一個很方便又溫暖的廚房，通常大家會在這個地方下廚和外國人分享美 食、聊天等。有時候大家也會一起聚在這裡討論功課或是喝酒，另外由於這裡太 陽下山的時間比台灣還晚又加上提供的飲食太過於豐盛，通常我們吃完晚餐後會 和任老師散步要不然就是和國外朋友聊天。 要在赫爾大學上課的第一件事就是除了要自己辦註冊手續外還要能力分班， 糊塗的我在這重要的一天忘記攜帶護照，導致不能當天就辦理好學生證。在一個 語言不同的國家辦理事情這種經驗讓我感到很有壓力，一方面要試著聽懂辦理人 員的口音，另一方面則要擔心資料是否完善，此刻就像是讀了好幾年的英文但是 當要開口說時會對自己感到無限的緊張和惶恐。 到了正式上課的日子讓我感到很吃力，因為剛好染上風寒又加上只聽的懂一 些關鍵字。當我要和不同國家的人對談時，會變得很緊張又加上自己並不是懂很 多有關每次要討論的主題資訊，所以在和外國同學學習的時候並不是很順利，有 2 次上課幾位波蘭同學和老師有談到:認為我們亞洲人太害羞了，不常和他們互相 交流。但事實上是我們不知道要和他們說些什麼，平常的聊天也許還可以但是如 果是要討論課堂上的內容就比較吃力。 在第二堂課中受到更大的刺激，西班牙同學不太想和我交談因為我都不說 話，只在一旁聽她和另一位波蘭同學的對話，其實到現在我才明白原來我的內心 是多麼的感到無奈，上課的內容大多是有關世界觀的知識。在台灣讀英文的時 候，比較注重於單字和文法，口說和英聽則比較不受重視，但是出國才發現原來 這兩者的重要性遠大於閱讀和寫作。遇到真的外國人卻不太敢說話，也許是對自 己的英文沒自信吧，畢竟在台灣所受的教育訓練真的是明顯的感到不足。總之當 時只要到上課的時刻就真的感到很吃力，每天都有種想趕快過完這一個月的感 覺。 由於學校有發公車卡所以搭紅線的車不用錢，我們通常會在下課的時候搭公 車到市中心逛街。走在市中心看到到處都是商店和一些有意義象徵的藝術建築 物，思鄉之愁瞬間煙消雲散了。我們最常做的事:比較商品價錢。有些名牌的價 格比台灣還要便宜，令我印象最深刻的商店是熊寶寶店，如果要買的話得要當場 自己填充棉花。總之在逛街方面，我確定的是：我們是一群「奧客」，因為只逛 但是不買。 正式上課的第二天是最忙碌的一天，因為我們的上課時間是下午。這天當我 們回到 lawns(休憩的地方)還要參與全程的英文消防演習教學，身心俱疲的我已 經聽不下他的演講內容了，只希望能快點吃晚餐。這天晚上學校也有舉辦舞會和 開放 bar 讓我們狂歡。 3 經過了幾堂課的相處，我和班上的兩位西班牙老師 Antonia 和 Monze 建立了 很好的友誼，雖然有時候交談的時候，他們很重的捲舌音讓我聽不太懂，但是我 除了用英文和他們交談外也配合肢體語言，這樣的相處模式讓他們對我也留下深 刻的印象。也許是因為我們上課的內容大多是針對口說和聽力兩大方面，所以大 部分都要和其他人分組討論分享，當然在這所有的過程全都是要用英文交談，在 我的班級上大多數的西班牙人都是老師級的，波蘭人流利的英文讓我為之一嘆， 總之對我而言真的很困難和他們互動密切，西班牙人嚴重的捲舌音、義大利人的 口音還能接受、波蘭人流利的英文，這就是我每天上課時候必須接觸的同學。 宿舍會舉辦舞會和 bar 開放讓我們互相交流建立友誼之橋，這天總算是讓我 見識到外國的 pub 文化。看他們瘋狂的在舞池裡跳舞著，感受到不同文化的環境 讓我有種新奇的感覺，在東方像 pub 這種場所大部分的人通常比較不會為了交朋 友特地去這種地方，更何況對這種地方往往留下壞印象。但是在西方的文化中卻 是不大相同，pub 這個地方似乎是他們工作結束後能盡情放鬆的地方，和朋友聚 在一起喝酒分享，跳舞放鬆心情。 這天為了減輕我們大家的功課壓力所以我們有幾個人一起分工合作完成並且 互相討論作業，Howard 的教學方式我覺得他採「東西方合併」，作業派很多給 我們，在教文法的時候卻是輪流唸文法句子，這樣就算他教完文法了。這種方式 其實真的和台灣的教法很不相同，同時也讓我在想一個問題:是不是不用太注重 文法呢?這天我們大家聚在一起討論作業快 1 點才休息。為了不在 Howard 的課 堂上出糗,大家決定都要事先預習，所以在之後的課堂上還蠻順利的，其實如果 真的不知道老師所問的問題，也不用太慌張更不用感到丟臉，直接承認自己不知 4 道也不會怎麼樣，別人也不會用異樣眼光看待你。不僅如此同學有時候也會好心 的告訴你答案，所以愈到後面的上課氣氛其實也比較不那麼的感到緊繃。有一次 Howard 放了幾張建築物我們必須要和組員討論這個建築物的名稱、國家、年代。 其中有一張是吳哥窟，我們這組只有我知道，但是並不知道它的英文。結果當 Howard 在問的時候，我們這組的波蘭同學卻當場和老師說我知道，此時我也只 好說出中文，結果當然全班哄堂大笑。到了最後一週 Howard 的教學內容也越來 越有趣了，在建築物的主題單元上他要我們都上台報告在自己的國家中喜歡的建 築物，介紹其特色給大家。另外他還安排分組用報紙做一座橋，看看誰的橋最穩 固。到了最後一堂課，他還進行一項單字比賽活動，同國家的一組並且玩拼單字 棋子遊戲。 我的另外一位老師 Mureen，她主要是教我們如何增進聽力能力。另外她也規 定要分組作 project 打學習成績。Mureen 寫了幾項不同的主題在紙上，然後我們 自己選擇有興趣的主題，接著 Mureen 再「調配」分出適當組員。這項報告的呈 現方式需要像記者般的形式和製作成談話性節目完成主題，意思是必須採訪路人 完成我們的主題，然後在台上每個人還要飾演來賓。在這項重要作業中，我的夥 伴是兩位西班牙人和一位大陸人，我們很密集的討論這項作業的主題:「英國人 是如何運用他們的假日」，一起採訪在 lawns 廚房工作的阿姨，另外還有一位工 讀生，接著負責介紹自己國家有關這方面的文化。一切的作業流程可說是很完 美，我們這組為了這項作業幾乎是每天都會討論而且排演了大概有 4 次，Mureen 認為我們這組的表現還不錯，她有把每一組的表現攝影起來，並且重播給我們大 家看，另外是在結束之後她會單獨的面談每一位同學並且告訴他的優缺點、和評 分方式。在最後的一堂課中，Mureen 提供了許多學習英文的方法讓我們回家後 5 還能繼續學習英文，像是 BBC Learning English 網站，我覺得她很用心的為我們 著想。對我而言在這次的分組作業中分數並不是很重要，我喜歡團隊合作的感 覺，並且注重在我的學習缺點讓我改進。在這項作業結束後，我們一起到學校對 面的 PUB 慶祝，我的西班牙夥伴非常慷慨的請我喝他們推薦的 sandy，並且一起 分享在自己國家裡我們大家是如何學習英文和經驗，當我提到我們的教學方式中 比較沒有練習說英文，西班牙夥伴就立刻驚訝的說了一句:Stupid teacher!在這次 的慶祝中我多少了解到各國家的人也很努力的學習英文，雖然歐洲國家所學的是 英式英文，和我們不同，但是他們常常會為了增進自己的語言能力，自行到英國 進修。這點學習的精神是值得我效仿的，學習不是為了考試而是為了增加自己的 能力。 在休閒娛樂方面，學校會舉辦一些活動讓我們參加，在學校活動中我很感謝 義守大學的全程金錢提供讓我們都能全部免費參與。我們每個禮拜六都會到一些 不錯的景點活動，像是有著悠藍大海 Scarbprough、探訪歷史古蹟的 Hull 博物館 等。令我覺得好玩的事:參加打保齡球活動， 這天的天氣並不配合我們的雅致， 下著大雨天氣也變得越來越冷，又加上公車好像不想載我們連放了兩次鴿子，過 不久到了保齡球場對我來說真的很新奇，而且還遇到派很多作業的 Howard，他 也和韓國學生一起來打保齡球。由於學校付錢所以吃喝免費，打保齡球事先要換 上鞋子，我們大家都很好笑，因為不知道鞋子要穿多大，所以有很多人一直換尺 寸，接著就是好笑的保齡球大賽，我一直狂洗溝，其他人看不過就幫我一下但是 還是沒有好轉，到了最後一局還是以洗溝收場，夠慘了。這是第一次嘗試雖然並 不是很理想，這真的是很有趣的回憶。 6 這次帶我們赫爾團的任老師也非常辛苦，除了要不時關心我們的學習狀況， 還要安排我們假日的活動。通常在禮拜日的時候他會帶我們到一些不錯的地方走 走，到非常城市化的 Leeds、歷史古蹟豐富的 York、購物天堂 Outlet，如果我們 還有其他的計畫，老師也會幫我們分析是否適合前往。 在這一個月中，我們認識幾位來自阿拉伯國家的人，他們介紹一家阿拉伯餐 廳給我們認識和吃一頓一國風味的午餐，餐點很特別我在這餐花了 3 英鎊，另外 我們有一起和阿拉伯餐廳老闆照相。還有一群泰國朋友的熱情招待我們，他們總 是很熱心的做泰國美食讓我們吃，到了要離別的日子依依不捨的和他們道別。令 我最不捨的是和西班牙朋友道別，他們的熱情擁抱和相處愉快的回憶最讓我無法 難忘。 這次的赫爾留學經驗讓我在人際關係方面上學習到很多，如何用國際通用的 語言和各國的人互相交談對我來說這需要一股勇氣。和同團的同學互相學習幫助 生活的這個月讓我更加獨立自主，學習生活上每件事要自己負責和處理。另外很 感謝任老師這個月來對我在人際關係上的開導指教和關心，謝謝老師在我生病的 時候煮薑茶給我喝，時時關心我們的學習狀況。這次難忘的英國遊學經驗我要非 常感謝天地、父母和幫助我的人事物，如果沒有你們我也就沒有如此完美的遊學 回憶。 This is the first time that I went to Hull located in the far country United Kingdom. Before I arrived in Hull, I took a long time on transportation. And it had happened a terrible thing which I remembered it mostly in the Holland. That was I was frisked in the Holland airport, as a result of my charm( a person that protects one from punishment). What was worse, the 7 inspector still could not find it, and she just find my wallet with the strange looking. This terrible thing was always in my mind. When I reached Hull where is full of fresh air, soft sunshine, and the beautiful scenery, feeling all the stress that I had suddenly fell away. For my surprise, the safety transportation in here and they give precedence out of courtesy for the pedestrians. In my opinion, it is very difficult behavior about it in Taiwan. To comparison, in our country’s transportation system really need to change. This time we lived in the place called Bung. In the past, our students needed to live in Ferens. Well, I had seen the two different places, and I liked even more Bung. than Ferens. Even though there is a large grassland around Ferens, there is the convenient kitchen where we can talk together and communicate with foreign friends in Bung. Generally speaking, we had a sweet group and our teacher, Dr. Jen always concerned us frequently. When I got a caught, he cooked the ginger tea for me. Every night our teacher chatted with us together, sharing something happened, teaching me lessons about human relationship in our kitchen. It is a good memory for me. Fortunately, I was not only learning English but also learning about some valuable knowledge of life. At first day, we needed to have a writing test , on account of proper class. After the long English explanation, we needed to choose which course you wanted to. There were two different courses : one is focus on academic which focus on writing and reading, the other is concentrate on communication. After I considered my consideration, I chose the communication course. The course had four different parts. The four parts were made up of the lecture, the lecture up, the general English, and the listening. Every course had different teacher, especially the lecture course. The lecture course had different speeches on every Monday. I thought that it had different topic for us, such as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Women in Science Fiction 8 Film, Language Matters, and How to learn English. For me, it was very hard to start adapting the lecturers because of their accent and speed of speech. Generally speaking, I just understood about 30% about the lecturer’s meanings, and all I could do was write down the lecturer’s power point. After the lecture course, we needed to discuss some points which the lecturer told in the lecture up course. Sometimes Ms. Janet, the lecture up course teacher, would arrange some interesting activities with us. I would understand more about the speech through the activities. For example, Ms. Janet asked all of us to play a role like parents, teenager, teacher, and the politician. Everyone who played the same role needed to discuss together. Ms. Janet always led us to combine each other with factors which were around us. Sometimes she might ask us about the lecturer’s advantages and disadvantages, how was our feeling of listening. Moreover, My another English teacher Mr. Howard who taught me the general English course. Mr. Howard’s course influenced me most on English grammars, vocabulary. As a result of his way that he taught us, I could not take a rest naturally. He taught the textbook and always used the teamwork way in his class. And the most important was we could not use our translator. I was frustrated in the teamwork. I really wanted to communicate with each other, sharing my thoughts. But there were some problems that I had. I was not know information about the world. This factor still made me do not know how to discuss with others, so my partners sometimes ignored me. Fortunately, the worse situation became better day by day, when I adapted the foreign culture .I realized that it does not matter if you have mistakes. If I did not know the answer, it did not matter to say I did not know, and even though your answer was wrong. It influenced me a lot especially on the learning way. It was very different way in teaching English grammars. It surprised me that Howard taught it just asked us to read every sentences and then we needed to do the grammar questions. I thought Howard taught us grammars through the questions. Every time I needed to do his homework, Howard always assigned homework to us. 9 In order to solve the big homework, we sometimes studied together, and discussed in our kitchen. At the final class, we had to present the topic: Architecture, introducing the unique architecture. It was worth to talk about the impressive activity that we had to build a bridge which could support three apples together. The poor bridge which I made only could support an apple. To conclusion, I had an impressive experience about learning English. To sum up, the recycle of his teaching sometimes made me feeling boring. Besides, I had the other nice teacher Ms. Mureen. She taught me the polite way which communicates with others in English. During she taught me the politeness way, I knew that the British English focuses more on politeness than American English. When we communicated with others, we needed to be tactful and stood in other’s shoes. For me, it is hard to make it, owing to the complicated styles. What was more, Mureen also asked us to do the important project. This project had to like the talk show. What was interesting, we needed to be divided into different groups, and we needed to work together. She decided some topics, and we chose it that we liked. All group had different topic. My topic was: How British people use their weekends? And I had three partners who came from Spain and China. As far as we had to do the important project, we met each other frequently to discuss it. Firstly, we decided to interview a woman who worked at the lawns’ kitchen. Secondly, we also interviewed the other younger person who took a part- time job at lawns. Then we would compare the two different stages of age. And we did our own parts which introduced our own county culture. Before we presented it in class, we did several rehearsals outside. Before the important day coming, I went to play bowling with my friends. It seemed that I was so confident for my project that I was not worried it. Finally, we presented it smoothly on class, and Mureen said that the part of interviews were very good. After the presentation finished, she also showed the record which was everyone’s performance. During we saw the record, she said that my performance was very naturally and it was very clear about my pronunciation. People could understand me easily. To improve my English, I still asked Mureen how to do, and I told her my difficult in speaking English with simple vocabularies. She told me a lot of 10 ways that I could learn English after I went home. I appreciated her very much, because she always was patient when I told to her. During the “Foreign Month,” I knew a lot of persons who came from different counties that we always communicated with each other. It was not difficult communicating with them. In my opinion, even though you were not good at your English, you still could make friends. For example, we knew a person who came from Arabian, he cooked a delicious lunch for us, and the friends who came from Thailand cooked food for us, too. My Spanish partners were so kind that they invited me to go to the party which they held. These best friendship that I had will be kept in my mind forever. I attended pub three times with my foreign friends, taking pictures with them. I think it was very different pub culture between western and eastern. The pub culture in Asia always stands for the dangerous place, and most parents do not allow their children to go such the place. On account of the special opportunity that we arrived in Hull, we always seized every day to go anywhere. For our first week, we usually went to city center by bus. Our guider Dr. Jen was very toilsome, he usually concerned about our safety of activities. And he usually arranged some famous places with us, taking us to go there. Sometimes I could not take a step with him, because his speed of walking was very fast. On one hand, Dr. Jen paid more attention to us, and he always said that if you wanted to go somewhere, you must take it into consideration. On the other hand, he usually paid the way for us previously. To sum up, this special study-abroad experience made me become more confident in speaking English. I truly appreciate ISU university, Dr. Jen, my parents, the God, and something which had helped me. Without them, I think I would not have the unforgettable journey, in spite of just a month. 11 中文報告 財金系 2A 9723029A 張卿琪 就在 2009 年的夏天，在英國的一個小鎮 Hull，留下了我們的足跡，也在我們的生 命留下了最難忘的扉頁。這一趟旅程對我來說就是一段尋找勇氣的旅程，無疑的，也 是讓我跨出井底之蛙的認知！在出國以前，我一直以為我的人生只要平平直直且踏實 的過大學生活就行了。但是我發現我的想法真的錯了！因為這趟英國之行讓我改觀。 我想或許出國旅行本來就不在我的人生規劃裡吧。雖然原本我是這麼想的，只是當有 這個難得的機會，我感激，卻也讓我兩難。慎重的考慮結果是，我決定改變我的想 法；決定去嘗試；決定去看看這廣闊的世界。於是我和一群來自不同系的夥伴和帶團 的任老師，踏上了這段充滿不可思議的英國之旅。 由於是第一次出國；第一次看到免稅商店；第一次搭飛機；第一次走在各種不同 國家的人與人之間，突然發現自己真的是好渺小喔！心裡的擔憂和不安像堆樂高一樣 一直累積。但這些複雜難解的情緒，當我一踏上 Hull 看到這裡的美，這一切的心情都 被欣喜給取代了！而當我踏進自己的房間，推開窗向外看的那一剎那，真的很想大 喊：我來到了英國! 到了 lawn 以後，這裡的環境好讓人心曠神怡，心情和心胸都頓時寬闊起來了！我 們住在六人一房的平房裡，12 個人住兩間平房，每個人都有自己獨立的房間。也許有 點可惜的是我們自己獨棟，比較少能認識和接觸外國朋友。不過阿！大家可都是蓄勢 待發的準備在上課時間認識新朋友呢!而自己獨棟也是有不一樣的感受，有一個寬廣的 四周和草坪，感覺上比較貼近大自然；有一個獨立的的衛浴設備，也比較有安全感； 還有一個萬能的廚房，是個充滿回憶的地方。記得，剛剛開始，我們會買麵包或是從 lawn 拿麵包和果醬，早上上課出門前在廚房烤一烤，中午就能在學校的草坪上享受聚 在一起快樂的草地野餐！記得，我們第一次自己開火，認識 Keita，我們就在這裡用英 文跟他學習日語。記得，在晚上時，我們會約在一起認真的討論功課、一起為對方加 12 油打氣、一起和大家分享自己的近況心得。記得，我們在這裡展露身手請泰國朋友吃 泡麵，而他們也請我們吃泰式料理，永遠不會忘記他們的好手藝。還記得老大和 Kevin 的大顯身手，整桌的豐盛大餐，煮的真的很像家鄉菜，真的是有許多感動驚艷迴盪在 心裡。仍記得，晚餐過後的小散步，每每走在那清涼的綠意裡，不快的心情都會莫名 的好起來！ 第一次用力的吸一口屬於英國的空氣，微涼清爽可口；第一次可以在英國使用網 路連絡家人，開心到想尖叫；第一次在 lawn 看到英國的餐點，大家瘋狂的拿相機拍 照，到現在想起來還是會令人會心一笑；第一次看到英國的雙層巴士，大家都興奮的 坐到上層；第一次看到 Hull 大學的廣闊翠綠，期待的想到處探索。我發現來到英國的 前幾天真的讓我的心情起起伏伏，很難讓我相信真的來到英國。 學校的的生活或許就是這次的最大收穫，上課的第一天，是註冊日也是分班日。 就在註冊這一天，我深深的感受到英國的緩步調，看著狀況百出的行政事務和電腦頻 頻當機，他們不慌不急，慢慢很有耐心的一個一個處理。即使心裡原本著急的我，也 開始學著他們放鬆自己緊張的情緒！在課程的選擇裡，我選了 communication skill 的 班，班上大部分是歐洲同學，有西班牙人、義大利人、和波蘭人，另外還有後來加入 的沙烏地阿拉伯人和中國人。在上課的過程交流裡，我發現大家來這裡的目的其實很 簡單，就只是學英文和交朋友！所以在上課時大家都很踴躍的發表自己的想法，也會 互相留時間給對方有機會表達。即使大家來自不同的國家，卻用著相同的語言試著和 對方溝通，真的深深的感受到英文是如此的國際化。但相對來比，自己就顯得比較不 主動不大方。看著大家口若懸河、應答如流，自己卻聽得有些辛苦，剛開始真的打擊 很大。但是時間真的可以沖淡許多不適應，後來也藉由佑華人認識了一個泰國朋友 Tua，有了他們倆個人的幫忙和鼓勵，我鼓起勇氣開始主動用英文和班上的同學聊天表 達自己的想法而不懼怕，就當我踏出第一步的那一剎那，真的感到信心不斷的湧起。 13 我發現英國的教育和台灣真的大大不同，他們的小班制度，讓每個人都有表達意見的 機會。不僅如此，在課堂上老師還會再分成 3~4 人一組互相討論。所以光是「聽」課是 不夠的，還要「開口」說出自己的想法。在課間我發現老師喜歡我們發問問題，只要是 不會的單字，他不希望我們用電子辭典查生字。雖然這樣的上課方式讓我戰戰兢兢、 隨時繃得很緊，但是也因為全神貫注的情況下，所以慢慢的上起課來更是得心應手。 除了上課之外，每周都有一次的 lecture 和一堂的分享討論，藉由討論過後原本在演講 時不是能抓到所有的訊息而疑惑時，後來都能很清楚演講的內容甚至是寓意呢！最後 還有一次分組的 presentation，不僅讓我們更了解 hull 這個地方，且建議我們能夠藉由 英國這裡的 pub 來獲得資訊，也讓我們藉由了解不同國家的習俗讓我們更認識對方。因 為如此我們花時間聚在一起練習，彼此相處的時間也更多，也更不怕用英文和大家溝 通了!還有一堂課是 Howard 讓我們每個人做一個小小的報告介紹自己最愛的建築物， 而和後半堂課用報紙親身經歷蓋橋的過程。就在這次的學習過程裡我體會到英式的豐 富教學方式，並且從中加深了自己對說英文的信心和學習英文的興趣。 第一次品嚐阿拉伯料理，享受；第一次體驗 pub 就在英國，刺激；第一次參觀 異國的風景，開心；第一次在英國搭火車的心情，興奮；第一次親眼看到英國的教 堂，肅穆；還有第一次打保齡就在英國的夜晚，如今想想的這一切真的都好令人回 味。我發現在英國的所有體驗對我來說是很多在台灣也不曾嘗試過的。也或許是自己 在生活上就鮮少有娛樂，所以這一次我決定要好好的放鬆心情享受在英國的娛樂和景 點。 課餘的時間，除了會走路到附近的超市外，我們也會利用下午的時光到處逛 逛，一開始都以市中心為主。我們參觀了很多的博物館也悠閒的走在舊市街的步道 上，每個博物館都記載了屬於 hull 的歷史。如今最令人印象深刻的還是我們大家互相 試戴以前戰士的兵器。之後認識了 Mohamand，他也帶我們到阿拉伯餐廳品嚐不一樣的 14 食物，這讓我想到我們剛拿到菜單各個睜著好奇的眼睛無從下手的樣子！在保齡球館 那不知道該如何擺姿勢的我，現在想想還是覺得糗糗，不過阿我終於有了打保齡球的 經驗！還有西班牙的小學老師們請大家喝水果調酒，是我們第一次除了上課之外難得 聚在一起呢！最後一個禮拜我們終於去了市中心附近的 Deep，這是一個如海中小小島 嶼的水族館，雖然沒有進去，但是外觀那令人驚嘆的壯美就像一隻探出頭的鯊魚。 在假日，我們就會到比較遠的景點參觀。像是在唯美海邊的 scarborough，可以 看到我最愛的藍海，海草如寶石綠般的亮粉灑在海上的美；也可以看到海邊小孩子堆 沙堡，想到以前我也這樣子無憂無慮的玩耍過；還可以看到成群海鷗如點的鑲在岩石 峭壁上。之後我們沿著城堡的路走，一層一層的階梯把我們送上頂端眺望廣闊的蔚藍 海。雖然沒有進去城堡裡，但是這樣在山上眺望海的美真的是讓我很滿足了！英國真 的是一個充滿古典雅氣的地方。林肯有林肯大教堂和城堡，城堡裡有著名的監獄，不 過我是覺得怪可怕的。約克也有約克大教堂、石頭街、世界最大的火車博物館和難得 的市集。我想英國最多的大概就是教堂了吧！高聳直達天空的尖頂、莊嚴神聖的氛圍 和透亮的彩色玻璃，或許這就是教堂給我肅穆的感覺了。在 beverley 最特別的景點也是 教堂呢！除了逛這些景點外，我們也不忘購物一翻，這裡的 outlet 就像一個台灣版的夢 時代。不過，這裡的東西是真的賣得比當地便宜。另外我們也搭火車到 leeds，在這我 也是以參觀為主，雖然這裡是一個時尚的逛街地點。在英國的街上處處可見街頭藝 人，而我們在這裡巧遇同性戀的遊行，這可是我來到這看過最大規模又不可思議的活 動吧！我發現我來到這裡的娛樂，是把心用在享受參觀各種景點的美，而少部分的購 物，雖然比較沒有實物上的擁有，但卻有心靈上的滿足！ 這次的英國之旅，雖然說不上一定能有什麼巨大的改變，但是我們有一次畢生 難忘的經驗或許是別人所沒有的。在這裡認識了許多好朋友，也體會到如果沒有走出 來看看這世界，永遠不知道自己不足的是什麼。最後看一次好好的記下這裡的一切， 15 hull 大學、雙層巴士、市中心、lawn、一群好朋友、和英國的風景。古人說讀萬卷書不 如行萬里路，真的很貼切。親身體會的一切比什麼還真實。 最後一次 CAUSE2 的全員晚會；最後一次上課有點不捨的踏出教室的心情； 而最後一次在 lawn，是我們唱離別歌時。我們用相機記錄了我們的不捨；我們的友 誼；我們的回憶。在這個暑假我勇敢的跨出自己狹隘的生活圈，換換角度，開開眼 界，看看不一樣的世界。我原以為會很漫長的一個月，如今卻覺得短得好捨不得。很 感謝人老師的盡責照顧和團員們的陪伴還有在這裡認識的一切。我相信有了這一次畢 生難忘的經驗，更是激勵了我要更努力充實自己，並多方面的接觸各種不同方面的知 識，而不只是課內的教材而已。當然也使聽讀英文成了習慣。為自己再次出國鋪一條 機會道路。 英文報告 財金系 2A 9723029A 張卿琪 In 2009 summer, we had left behind our trails and unforgettable memories in a Britain’s small town Hull. This journey let me broaden my horizon. Before studying abroad, I had thought that my university life only needed to keep working hard and lived an easy life. But after the trip of British, I had a changeable thought of my life. Although I thought that travel abroad was originally not in my life plan, but this was a rare opportunity. I felt thankful but it 16 let me be in a dilemma. As a result, I decided to try my best and had a look at this whole world. Therefore I went on this unbelievable Britain’s trip with teacher and classmen from different departments. Because this was my first time to study abroad and take the airplane, I felt so worried. And when I walked through different national people, I suddenly discovered that I was so shortsighted. But as soon as I came to Hull and saw the beautiful scenery, my bad mood changed into good mood. The lawn had a great environment that let us feel relax. We lived in a house, which had capacity for six people. Everyone had his or her own room. But this was a pity that we had little time to make foreign friends at lawn. However there were some advantages of having an independent house. Fist, I had a sense of safety because of an independent equipment of shower room. Second, we had a natural surrounding because of a broadly grassland. I remembered that we often took a walk in a cool green path after dinner. That made me feels refreshing. Last, we had lots of memories in our own kitchen. I remembered that in the beginning we would buy some bread or took some with jam from the lawn’s dining room. And then baked them before going to school. So in the lunchtime, we enjoyed the joyful picnic together on the grassland at the school. I still remembered that we first cooked in the kitchen and made friend with Keita. He taught us Japanese in English. I would not forget that we gathered to discuss schoolwork, cheered with each other and shared our own recently situation to each other. I would not forget about the Thai friends. We had once cooked fast noodle to treat them. After that, they also cooked some Thai food for us. I was so lucky and enjoyed their delicious food. And I even remembered the big feast that cooked by Wayne and Kevin. These dishes let us think of the food in our hometown. I was really touched and surprised. I thought that school life perhaps was the biggest harvest during this trip. It was my first time to see the double-bus. I was so excited that I went on to the second layer of the bus right away. The view of the street was so different when I looked out the window on the bus.I 17 was so happy in my mind when I saw the view of the school. The environment of the school were plenty of trees and good-looking buildings. The first day of the school was the registration and they would put all the students in different groups. In this day of the registration, I had a deep feeling that the Britain’s working was calm and unhurried. When their computers were broken down suddenly, they were not anxious. But they slowly and patiently dealt with the problems one by one. Although I felt in tense at fist, I learned from their good way of dealing problems. I started to relax my tense mood when I met trouble. In the choice of the class, I choose communication skill class. In this class, we learned more listening and speaking. And there also had general class which taught us grammar and reading. In the class, most of the students were European. For example, the Spanish, the Italian, and the Pole. There also had students came from China and Arabic. After a few classes, I found that all of my classmates study hard. And we all had the same purposes of coming to the summer camp. Making friends and learning English were the main purposes. So, in the class, they would try their best to answer the questions that teacher asked and expressed their ideas of the topics. And they would also keep the time to have the opportunity expression to other people. Even if everybody came from different countries, all of us used English language and tried to communicate with others. When I saw other people could speak English so fluently but I still struggled to listen to teacher. I felt so worried and anxious when I talked to others. But time will let everything go well. Afterward I also recognized a Thai friend, Tua, though Hau. With both of their help and encouragement, I had the courage to start on chatting with my classmates and expressed my idea with no fear. From that time, I felt confident. I found out that the way of teaching English in British was different from Taiwan. In British, they divided all the students into a small group, so they could discuss the topic that the teacher gaved. Therefore listening to the teacher in the class was not enough. We should open our mouth and express our thought. The teacher liked us to ask questions. Even if a word that we didn’t know, he didn’t let us use dictionary. Although this way of teaching on the class 18 made me feel nervous, I had learned a lot from the lessons with concentration. Besides, we had lecture every week. After the lecture, we would discuss the topics of the film. So I would know more about what was the lecture going on. At the end of the class, we had a presentation in a few groups. Not only let us know more about the cultures of the Hull, but also let us understand each other. Because there were 4 different national people in a group, so we used English to ask questions of the cultures to everyone from different countries. The teacher also suggested us to go to the pub and to get the information of Hull’s cultures. After the presentation, I was more confident when I communicated with my classmates in English. There was also an interesting class that taught by Howard. He let us make a small presentation to introduce our favorite building. And on the second lesson, we used newspaper to built the bridge. I realized there was a variety of ways of teaching English in British. Everyday after the lesson, we would go to the nearby supermarket sometimes. We spent our leisure time on wondering around the Hull at the afternoon. At the beginning, we took the105 bus to the city center more often. We had visited varieties of museums and walked on the old street. Every museum had its own way to record the Hull’s histories. The most impressive thing in one of the museum was the weaponry that we tried on. Afterward, we recognized Mohamad who is a guy from Arabia. He took us to the Arabian restaurant to eat the Arabian food. The food tasted a little strange that I didn’t have before. But it was a nice taste. After that, the social program planned to go bowling. Because I hadn’t go bowling in Taiwan before, my posture of bowling was quite strange. But I had a great experience and had lots of fun with everybody. On the last week, we finally went to the Deep nearby the city center in a few minutes walk. This was amazing and beautiful aquarium. Although we didn’t go inside, we took some pictures outside around the aquarium. In the holiday, we would go to a farther scenic spots. Take Scarborough as an example. This was an wonderful seashore that could saw the blue sea. We saw several children played sand castle by sea. It made me think of my child life. We also saw countless 19 sea gull on the cliff. Afterward we walked along the castle road. Although we had not gone inside to the castle there, I was satisfied with the view of nature. The scenery of the seashore was so beautiful that I saw it from the top. I thought that British were really filled with classical elegance. Lincoln had the Lincoln cathedral and the castle. There was a famous jail in the castle, but I thought that was strangely fearful. On the other hand, York also had the York cathedral, the stone street, the biggest train museum in the world and the rare market on the street. The most scenic spot in British must be the cathedral. The cathedral had a tall roof toward the sky, the dignified atmosphere and the colorful windows. In the Beverley, the most famous scenic spot was also the cathedral. Besides visiting those scenic spots, we would not forget to go shopping. The Outlet here in British looked like the Dream mall in Taiwan. Moreover we also took train to the Leeds in order to go shopping. Although Leeds had lots of fashionable window-shops, I still went to visit the scenic spots around the Leeds. We bumped into the huge parade of the homeosexuality. This was the biggest activity that I had ever seen since I came in the British. I discovered that I spent most of the time in visiting scenic spots and less time in shopping. Although I didn’t buy lots of things, I was satisfied in my mind. On the last Thursday in Hull, we had a party for cause 2 at night. And we also took lots of photos at lawns with Thai, Aribia and chinese friends. At the last few parties, I felt so sad that I didn’t want to leave. We used camera to record our every things with friends, Hull, lawn and the activities. On this summer I went abroad to expand my narrow life. Originally, I thought that one month was so long, but I felt one month was not enough at the end of the few days in Hull. Thanks to the teacher, who looked after us very responsible. And thanks to the members, which went with me. I believed that this unforgettable experience made me be more confidant and courage to do anything. I convinced that I would try my best to learn every things and English. 20 學海中文心得報告 英國赫爾大學團 電機一 C 9701168A 張皓博 在飛機上，當身邊的華語文國家的人漸漸被英語系國家的人取代時，心中不免對 自己參加了學海獎學金一事感到些許不安，畢竟一開始就知道自己平時缺乏聽與說方 面的練習，而自己也是用了特殊辦法獲得到參加權，難免擔心是否跟同團的人有許多 落差，但在一陣苦惱的同時也不斷的回想起之前帶團的任老師對我們說過的話。這一 個月的遊學，最主要的就是讓你感到挫折，但這挫折會讓你知道自己的不足，然後才 會真正地主動去學習，短短的一個月其實並不能讓你學到很多，更不可能馬上讓你的 英文的聽與說變的和外國人一樣好，你要做的就是吸取教訓，回國後再好好充實自 己。想著想著，飛機也逐漸的飛抵了目的地… 經過了兩次轉機後，在 Humberside 機場降落。一出境，學校的人馬上熱心的載 著我們前往 Lawns – 我們這一個月所要住的學生宿舍。這裡的宿舍分成很多區，每區 都有不太一樣的建築風格。一開始因住宿地點不確定，所以我們這團被拆成兩半前往 不同的宿舍區，我這團一開始去了 Ferens Hall，這是一棟年代已久的宿舍區，裡面的 設備都非常老舊，但特點在於這裡是聚集了許多不同國家的人的一個場所，任老師一 開始也非常贊同我們住在這裡，認為對於交流不同的人士非常方便的，但因種種因素 改到了和另一團人同樣的住宿場所-- Bungalows，這是一個由三個獨棟房子所組成的區 域，每棟分別讓 6 個學生自成一區，內附很俱全的廚房和高級浴室，雖然減少了和外國 人接觸的機會，但以後可以方便邀請他們到我們這裡來聚會也是件不錯的事。 21 解決完了住，接下來是關於食，我們早與晚餐是由學生宿舍，所以算是吃了很道 地的英國食物，常見的不外乎是馬鈴薯、pasta、肉類等等，偶爾會出現讓人懷疑是不 是真的是米飯的東西，味道真的讓人不敢領教，吃久了真的會讓人覺得自己國內的東 西真的很好吃，由於平時一餐在外頭吃的話都會花個 2~4 鎊不等，對於我們會是個很 大的開銷，所以平常也會自己一群人去超市買些東西回來煮，煮一頓平均下來才 1~2 鎊，而且又能和大夥一同談天，既節省又愉快。而最特別的就是在跟阿拉伯朋友認識 後，他們帶我們去吃了阿拉伯料理，味道很特殊也容易吃飽，這算是一大經驗，而英 國的傳統食物 Fish & chips 也沒有錯過，雖然看起來普通，但魚肉真的還蠻好吃的。 行的方面我們算是很幸運，從這次開始校方給了一張暑期票，持這張卡可以玩限 次數的做紅線公車，我們也因此省了一大筆錢。為什麼我會這麼說呢?這是由於團上有 人不小心弄丟了卡，結果就是他每禮拜要買一次約 10 鎊的一星期卷，這樣算下去也要 台幣 500 多，而平時假日如果要出門去玩，一整天的交通費最少要要花個 8~10 鎊買來 回票，而如果是要坐火車更貴，我們光是去一趟 Leeds 就要花 17.5 鎊，在英國，交通費 真的是一筆 很大的開銷。但英國的交通不是只有貴的特色，它方便在於很準時，車子 一定會在站牌標示的時間到來，就算早到也會停到時間到了才發車，而且它還會特地 的等遠方趕車的人趕到而不先離開，真的是很有心，而另一部份我們該學習的是，在 這裡，永遠都是車子在禮讓行人的，所以在這裡我們都能很安心的過馬路。 接下來是說關於學習了，我選擇了 communication skills，簡單來說就是注重於對 話學習，平時的上課方式會注重於團體討論等等。班上的同學來自很多國家，有義大 利、西班牙、波蘭、中國、日本，而年齡也不限年輕人，有些還是老師來進修呢!!課平 時分三種，第一種是演講課，在每次的演講後會來一堂解說課，讓大家來分享聽到了 什麼或是在聽演講中遇到了什麼障礙，這對我來說還蠻困難的，因為要一邊聽講一邊 抄寫而且還要記憶，所以每次在這堂總不能順利發表，讓我深深的感到即聽即記的重 22 要性。第二種像是文法課，就由討論一種特定主題的東西來研究單字與文法，也會藉 由這些主題來讓同學們來討論這些東西在自己的國家是怎樣呈現的，來讓我們了解不 同文化間的差異與特色，平時上課時也穿插些小遊戲來讓大家快樂學習，同時也認識 了一個新遊戲叫 Scrabble，有點像填字遊戲的東西，但可以分組對抗又可以學習單字， 真的有快樂學習的感覺。第三種課就是溝通課了，它平時會教些對話方面的課程，像 是你打電話給客服員要怎樣說話，或是練習聽力以及學著如何去描述一個人等等，而 這堂課最特殊的就是分組的 Presentation 了，大家各分得一個主題，然後要開始比較各 國與英國之間的差異性，我分到的是 PUB 文化。由於本身對台灣 PUB 的不熟悉，所以 一開始做出來的成果可以說是非常的糟，結果讓同組的義大利人 Stefano 不愉快，他甚 至還教訓了我一頓，或許是我的表達不完全也有造成他的誤解，但我也知道我也有不 認真的地方，所以我算是上了很大的一課，他也同時說出了對我們不能理解的地方， 像是為何上課不主動積極發表或發問等等，也說出了他們對課業表現方面的重視與作 法等等，讓我對這些事有了新的看待方式。最後在一番努力後，我們在正式發表時有 有了不錯的表現，而與大家一同練習與討論的時光，是我永生難忘的。 課餘的時間就是跑去各種不同的地方了，學校規劃的方面我們去了 Scarborough、Lincoln。Scarborough 是個海港，聽說是被開發為一個觀光地才興盛起 來的，舒服的海風加上隨處可見的海鷗構成了一福祥和景色，而位居高點的城堡遺蹟 與藍天構成許多漂亮的美景，最後還一邊喝著下午茶一邊觀看堡內特有的的表演，別 有一番風味。Lincoln 則是去看了 Minister 教堂與林肯堡，林肯堡的特殊是在於它處理 犯人的方式，沒有看到真正的判決場所對我來說是一大遺憾。除此之外我們還自行去 了 York 和 Leeds，York 我們總共去了兩次，第一次去主要先去了 outlet 大賣場，這裡 的商品全部是過季的東西，所以可以用很便宜的價錢買到許多名牌的東西，同團的大 家簡直像是殺紅了眼，買的不亦樂乎，接下來，大家去看了名聞遐邇的 York 大教堂， 這真的是個廣大莊嚴的地方，內部的擺設與彩繪玻璃總是散發這讓人會不由自主肅靜 23 的氣息，真的是個很神聖的景點。第二次去就分成觀光團與採購團了，這次去就正式 的去體驗了處處充滿驚奇的 York 小巷、有著教堂遺址的一座大公園以及一間很大的火 車博物館，在這裡能親眼看到以前的郵務車廂與豪華的頭等車廂真的讓我覺得物超所 值。Leeds 則是個購物城市，由於本身對購物沒什麼大大執著再加上和大家走散，於是 我便一個人隨便亂逛，但很有幸的遇上了讓人難忘的同志大遊行，他們除了遊街外還 另起一個街頭派對，除了宣導相關觀念外還有些預防措施，完全的體會到了外國人的 開放觀念與風氣。除了這些活動以外，平常日學校也安排了許多有趣的活動，像是晚 上一起去散步或是去打保齡球等等，有時還跟著外國朋友一起體驗著瘋狂的夜生活， 從這裡可以明顯的感到文化差異，他們都會覺得想要早歸的我們感覺很怪異，也會對 已經是成年人的我們卻還要被帶團老師監督感到很不解，這些都算是傳統風俗的些許 因素所造成的不同吧! 很快的一個月過去了，好不容易開始習慣這裡的生活卻要走了，最讓人不捨的就 是得和剛認識的外國朋友們告別，他們的熱情與友善讓人難忘，泰國朋友和阿拉伯朋 友們還犧牲了學校的活動陪著我們度過在英國的最後一天，真的很感謝他們，讓我們 在這段短短的時光裡留下許多愉快的回憶，也希望自己以後能再和這群朋友一起看著 英國這片湛藍的天空。 24 On the plane, when the people speaking in the Chinese was gradually replaced by the people speaking in English, I just felt more and more uneasy to join the scholarship of the abroad learning. I knew I didn’t have enough practice in listening and speaking and I also worried about my ability of English was not as good as other people that go with me because 25 I joined this activity without test. Although I was worried about this, I remembered what Teacher Jen had told us. “In this month, the main idea is to make you feel frustrate and this frustrate will make you know what your English abilities lack. Then, you will actually go to study on your own mind. In fact, you won’t learn lots of things during this month and you also cannot change your listening and speaking abilities that can as well as foreigners. What you have to do is to learn a lesson and enrich yourself after returning Taiwan.” The airplane arrived destination gradually when I deliberated. After two turning points, we landed in the airport of Humberside. As soon as we went out from Customs, the enthusiastic representatives of the University of Hull carried us to the Lawns, the dormitory that we would live this month, right away. The dormitory here was divided into a lot of areas, and all of the areas had a little bit different building style. In the beginning, because our dormitory wasn’t confirmed, we were divided into two different dormitory areas. I went to Ferens Hall in the beginning. It was a very older building and the equipments inside were all very older, too. The special feature it had is that this place collected many people from different countries. Teacher Jen thought it’s a very good place for us because we can easily contact with different people. However, due to some reasons, we finally changed our place to another place that the other people lived. The Bungalows. It was a place that was formed by three independent houses. Each one can let six students live in and it also had new equipments inside such as kitchen and deluxe bathroom. Although it means reduced chances to get in touch with foreigners, it was also a good place that we could invite foreign friend to come to our dormitory to have a party. Solving the residence then came the food problems. Our breakfast and dinner were offered by the Lawns center so we could eat genuine British food. The common foods were potato, pasta, and meat...etc. Sometimes, they would offer rice that had horrible taste and made us to suspect it is real rice or not. After a long time, we really miss the food form our country and thought our food is the best. One meal we ate outside would cost us two 26 to four pounds and it was a big cost for us. Thus we sometimes cooked food ourselves. On the average, it only spends one to two pound foe each one and we could enjoy in it leisurely. The most special thing happened, after we recognized Arabia friends. They brought us to eat tradition Arabia food. The flavor was very special and we could easily feel full. It was really a great experience for us. We certainly didn’t miss the traditional food, Fish& chips, of England. The fish was very delicious though its look was really common. It’s very lucky foe us to think about the commute problem. This time, the school began give us a summer ticket of the bus. By holding this ticket, we could take the bus of red line without limit and it mean we could save lot s of money. Why I say this? It’s because someone in our group had lost his ticket, then he had to buy weekly ticket himself that cost about ten pound every week. It’s very poor. In England, the transportation fee was very expensive. For example, if we wanted to go out in the weekend, we must pay least eight to ten pounds and if you took the train, it cost more. We went to Leeds one day and the return ticket cost us 17.5 pounds each. However, the traffic of England not only had expensive feature but also convenience. The bus here is very punctually and if they came to the stop early, they would wait unit the time up. They also would wait for the afar people who want to take the bus. It’s really warm. By the way, another part we had to learn is that all the cars here would let the walkers cross the road first so we can cross the street very safely here. Let’s talk the learning. I chose the communication skills lesson. It focused on practicing speaking with others. During the class, there were more chances to discuss with a group. In the classroom, there were many students came from different countries like Italy, Spain, Poland, China or Japan and also had different ages. They may be a college students or even teachers. The lesson could be divided into three parts. The first is the speech lessons. After listening to a lecture, we would have a lesson that made everyone to talk about what they heard or what obstacle they had. It’s difficult to me because I had to listen to the lecture, written down the note and remember at the same time. Thus, each time I always couldn’t talk 27 out my though smoothly. This lesson really made know the important of the listening skills. The second is like the grammar lessons. By discussing a topic, we studied the words and the grammars in the articles. Besides, we would also discuss how the topic shows out in different countries. Let us understand the features of the different cultures we had. Sometimes we might have some interesting games to make us feel happy learning. By this, I recognized a new game, Scrabble, which is just like the crossword. We could have fun and learn the words at the same time. The last one is communicated lesson. We learned some dialogues. For example, if you call a service member, you might talk what thing. We also practiced listening skills or learned how to describe a person. The special thing this lesson had is the Presentation of the team. Each group got a topic and then went to compare the difference of all counties including England. What I have to do is the pub culture of Taiwan. In the beginning, because I didn’t really acquaint with the pub culture of Taiwan, the result I showed out was very worse. Then, an Italian, Stefano, who was in my team, was very angry about it. He even taught me a lesson. Maybe I didn’t express all my though so he misunderstood some things. Nevertheless, I also knew that I didn’t do very well in my work. Thus, it was really an unforgettable experience foe me. He also talked to me that he cannot understand some things we did. Like why we didn’t actively announce though or ask questions in class. He also talked to me their value or method of the lessons. It gave me a new way to think about the study. Finally, we had a good performance in the end. The time that we practiced and discussed together is unforgettable for me in my all life. After the lesson, it’s time for us to visit kinds of places. The program that school prepared was going to the Scarborough and Lincoln. Scarborough is a harbor and it said that why here became a sightseeing place is because be developed purposely. The comfortable sea breeze and the gulls everywhere constituted out a blessing and peaceful landscape. The blue sky and the old castle also gave me many beautiful views. Finally, we drank an afternoon tea and watched a special performance inside the castle. It’s really good. In Lincoln, I visited the Minister church and Lincoln castle. The special of Lincoln castle is its way to handle a 28 prisoner but I still miss this special place in the castle. It’s really pity. Besides, we also go to the York and Leeds by ourselves. We altogether went to York two times. The first time, we mainly went to the outlet mall. It’s a place that sold the thing that was unfashionable so you can buy many famous brands in a cheap price. Next, we go to the York cathedral. The cathedral is wide and majesty. The decorations insides and the stained glass always made people feel solemn involuntarily. The second time, we divided into two group, one still went to shop and another just went to look around. This time I went to the York’s alleys which always had surprising thing inside, a big park with a heritage of church and a train museum. In the museum, I could see the luxurious first-class compartment and the postal compartment with my own eyes. It’s very interesting. Leeds is a shopping city. Because I didn’t persist to go shopping and get lost with others, I finally go around the city by myself. It’s lucky for us that there is a LGBT parades in the street. They also have a party in a square. Not only propagating their related ideas but also teaching some prevention measure. I completely realized the how the opening minds the foreigners had. Besides the weekend, the school also arranged many interesting activities for us on weekday like take a walk or beat a bowling etc. Sometimes, we also went out with our foreign friends to experience the crazy night life in the midnight. By this, we can easily felt the different culture between us. They always think that we wanted return so early and had a teacher to direct us was so strange but we thought it’s normal. I thought it was all because the different traditional customs. Time goes fast. A month passed so quickly. We just started getting used to life here but had to go back now. The saddest things were that we had to leave the friends we met here. I would never forget their enthusiasm and kindness. The Thai friends and Arabian friends even sacrificed the activity of school and then accompanied us to pass the day which is our final day in England. It’s very grateful because they gave us many pleasurable memories. I hope there will be one day that we can see the deep blue sky in England together again in the future. 29 30 團別:英國赫爾 姓名:屈紫綺 9743018A 學海心得 我已脫離每天被負著課業壓力的高中有段時間，英文能力一定有所退步，但我卻 很僥倖的考上學海遊學獎學金，我也很感謝學校能讓班上成績優異的同學有機會出國 看看外面不同於自己的世界，經過去年有去過赫爾大學的系上學長極力推薦，我也很 幸運的選上赫爾團，到目前為止，我終於在我這些年來度過了我認為最有意義的暑 假，我帶著雀躍的心情踏上心中嚮往已久的美麗國度 ― 英國，我覺得自己行前功課 沒有做好，因為我是抱著去玩的心態，但出發後我就發現我錯的很離譜，因為我看到 其他同學都已有萬分的準備，不論是在讀英文還是在了解英國的地理，從這看出他們 與我不同的目的，也發現自己多膚淺，真的使我心生慚愧阿！到英國後才發現原來自 己的英文能力應該是團內最差的，尤其是第一天上課的時候班上有一位波蘭人，不論 是我們學生自己在討論還是與老師互動，他的英文都很流暢，讓我倍受壓力，那剎那 間，我只能說我傻了。才真正了解到自己的英文程度，之前的自己就像井底之蛙一 樣，不知天高地厚，真的是人外有人，天外有天。 從第二天開始在正式的在 communication group 3 上課，我才真正的慢慢適應那裡 的環境，因為可能是大家的程度比較相近，並且老師講話的速度沒有那麼快，所以我 比較聽得懂，也比較不容易感到徬徨，但因為班上除了我們台灣的四個學生之外，幾 乎都是阿拉伯人，且另外有一位泰國人、一位中國人及一位利比亞人，大家來自世界 各地，雖然都用英文溝通，但講出口的英文總是帶著不一樣的口音，所以剛開始聽不 太懂他們在講什麼，但聽久了就習慣了，反正聽不懂就開口問，問到懂為止，藉由聊 天的方式作為文化交流，我們對他們的國家有了不同於課本上的認識。 31 在這短短的四個禮拜中，我真的學到了好多東西，不只是英文而已，因為我跟祐 華交情不錯，她的英文很好，對地理、歷史又有概念，所以她都會跟阿拉伯或其他國 家的同學聊天，我跟在她旁邊聽，且參與他們，從這當中我學到超多東西。在英文方 面，我比較敢開口說話了，心理想著反正就試試看，不要怕，怕了我就沒機會進步， 永遠不會成功，而且有些字不會表達也沒關係，還有 body language，只是每天我到晚 上睡前的時候，我都會去查我今天想講但不會的單字，這樣更讓我對這個單字印象深 刻。在課堂上我有不懂的單字，我也盡量不依靠電子辭典，讓自己先去猜猜看它的意 思，睡前在確認並記下來；另外，如果是在對話的時候我有聽不懂的，我會先去請教 祐華剛剛我有聽到所發出的音，去尋找那個單字，若是平常在與阿拉伯朋友聊天，因 為他們的英文程度比我好，所以我有聽不懂的地方，我就會問他們，他們就會換用簡 單的字去解釋給我聽，所以跟他們聊天我比較沒有壓力，我也樂在其中。快樂學習， 獲益無窮。在最後一週，我們分組討論，並有個 presentation，我們這組有五個人，扣 除我其他四個都阿拉伯人，我們主要是在探討英國及各自國家的文化差異，所以我們 經過一番討論後，我們決定討論「音樂」，雖然我們聚起來討論的次數少於其他班甚至 還少於自己班上其他組別，但我們終究還是完成我們的 project 了，我原本負責介紹台 灣的部分外、做 power point 及主持人，但在報告的前一天，阿拉伯人認為工作分配不 均，所以最後我就沒當主持人了，大家先是介紹各國音樂類型的轉變，最後在播放一 首各國的歌曲，我選擇了亞洲歌王–周杰倫，並撥放霍元甲這首歌的 MV，順便稍微提 一下霍元甲這個人，我會選擇這首歌是因為它有濃濃的中國氣息及有出現一點點的中 國功夫，它能使我的介紹更加活潑及更能抓住大家的注意力，報告前的一個禮拜我有 開始寫我的演講稿，但最後我並沒有按照上面的去報告，因為祐華說這樣報告會很不 自然，她叫我先看著自己的 ppt 然後在腦中想著我大概要跟大家說什麼，然後我演練給 她看，一演練才知道自己的問題出在哪，多虧有她，我才能趕快解決我的問題，使自 己在真正要報告的時候比較不會緊張，也比較自然，說話也才不會結巴，剛好老師要 32 求我們在報告前一天預演一次給她看，她要提供我們一些意見，雖然我的成績不高， 但我覺得我有達到我對自己的期許，我有進步，所以我也希望我以後的報告要一次比 一次好，以上是我在學校課堂上所學習到的東西。 從我一踏上英國這片土地的時候，我從小就很嚮往歐美國家，所以對我來說英國 到處都是驚喜，從看到他們一大片綠油油的草地開始，我內心的感受就已經不可言喻 了，更不用說其它方面了，上學的時候，坐在公車上往外看，一排排整齊的房屋，有 自己的花園，這簡直就跟我想要的家一樣，他們的房子雖然沒有台灣的大，但卻給人 家的感覺卻是溫馨、寧靜。假日的時候學校有安排我們去 Scarborough、Linkoln，除此 之外，任老師另外帶我們去了 York、Leeds，我們自己也去 Beverley，這些地方除了 Leeds 是較先進的都市外，其他都是較傳統的小街道、小商店，相較之下我比較喜歡後 者，走在小小的街道裡，從頭到尾都讓我驚嘆連連，都會發現一些新奇的東西，當我 第一次在 Hull 逛街時就發現英國人好注重每個節慶，甚至生日，因為他們有在專賣卡 片的店，店裡頭的卡片真的是琳瑯滿目，真的是把卡片細分成很多種，像是生日卡片 就有分對象及年齡。不只是卡片店，還有好多的小商店的商品都讓我流連忘返。在旅 遊的時候常常會遇到人很好的中年人或是老人家，他們好熱情，當我要求是否跟他們 合照的時候，他們好訝異但還是很熱情的配合我，但他們問我從哪裡來時，他們都會 把台灣聽成泰國，這時我就需要順便介紹一下台灣了，這也算是另一種國民外交吧！ 另外在 Lawns 裡，我們也結交了許多外國朋友，他們非常的好客，我們彼此也做了食 物的文化交流，我們所吃到的可都是最道地的泰國食物跟阿拉伯食物，吃起來的感覺 不像外面的餐廳一樣，在與阿拉伯朋友一同用餐的時候，我們請阿拉伯朋友示範如何 用手吃飯，我們也入境隨俗跟著他們，這是非常有趣的經驗，用手吃飯也是一門大學 問阿！除此之外，晚上我們也一起去體驗國外的夜生活，去夜店的時候發生了一段小 插曲，我們一整群人排隊，但輪到我的時候卻要求我出示我的身分證，不知是我看起 來太幼齒還是看起來像是非法進入英國，後來我跟另外兩人只好瘋狂的在回去宿舍拿 33 我們的護照再來，當我們在夜店裡的時候，外國朋友很照顧我們，隨時隨地注意我們 的安全，真的非常感謝他們，順便一提，我發現我們東方人真的沒有什麼舞蹈細胞， 除了聖敏之外，大家都不太會跳舞，而且我們也必較害羞內向，連交我們跳舞的阿拉 伯人都無可奈何，另外當地的女生可能已經看不下去了，她主動跑來摟著我的腰，叫 我跟隨著她扭動，但我的舞步還是沒有任何進展；從這些生活中瑣碎的事情裡，已經 領悟了之前課本中所提到的文化，但經過自己的親身體驗之後，我才能真正的把它鎖 在自己的腦中，這就是古人所說的「讀萬卷書不如行萬里路」。 在這趟可貴的英國之旅，我才真正了解到英文的重要性，從前的我讀英文只是應 付考試，為了升學而做準備，想想自己學英文學了將近十年，卻沒有看到自己的英文 比來自其他國家的同學厲害，這真是令我感到羞愧，但經過這次遊學的我，對英文有 了不同的看法，因為我有了很多憧憬，我還想再去歐洲，帶著家人好友自助旅行；我 想要結交來自世界各地的好朋友，使我跟朋友之間沒有語言的障礙，像我們這次回來 台灣，我馬上買了一個視訊，我要繼續與外國朋友保持聯絡，順便訓練我口說的能 力，另外，學校老師也提供了我們回國之後學習英文的方法，她提供了 BBC 英文學習 網，我想這真是替我省下一筆昂貴的補習費，我想利用這一兩年好好的充電，努力考 取雅思，爭取鷹揚計畫，再次出國看看海外多采多姿的世界。 34 I am glad about that I have this chance to go abroad for summer study. The time was nearer that made me become more excited. Although I awaited it long time,I didn’t have any beforehand works. Because I regard that is as ajourney. When we were in waiting room of airport,I found everybody that all of them had complet prepare beforehand. Their prepare include some information about geography,goods,food,and so on. And they improve their capability in English. I feel very ashamed about I didn’t do anything expect went to library and borrow a traveling book about UK. When I was in my first class of Hull University,I felt 35 very frustrate,because there were a Pole,a Spaniard,two Chinese in my class and their English are very well. They and the teacher speak English is too fast to me. That make me can not keep pace with them. Sometimes I can not catch the key words in their conversation,so I can not understand what they talk about. At that time,I realized my capability of speech and listen should be improve. Sometimes I can understand the outline but I don’t how to express my opinion at once. Because I should make up the sentences in my head,that spend too much time and sometimes I forgot the words which I want to use. Luckily,I and Yu-Hua were in the same class(group three). She helped me a lot of things in many aspect. She taught me how to improve my English and don’t fear to express my opinion or answer in the class. For example,when teacher have question to students,Yu-Hua would make chances to let me open my mouth bravely for answering the question. One the other hand,Yu-Hua is good at geography and history about other countries. So Yu-Hua had a lot of subjects of conversation with foreign friends. Because I did anything with Yu-Hua all the time,I could learn a lot of knowledge about Saudi Arabia and Thailand. From beginning at that time, I realized clearly about Saudi Arabian and Thai geography,history,culture,and religion. All of friends come from Saudi Arabia and Thailand are very friendly and kind. They cooked a lot of local dishes. These dishes are not very common in foreign restaurant and all of these dishes are most traditional and typical. And we tried to learn other language, I learn a few easy words and sentences in Thai and Saudi Arabian. For example,hello.bye bye,I love you,you are beautiful/handsome,and so on. It is a very interesting experience. We can learn a lot of knowledge that are not we learned by textbook from teacher in the class. By this time,we made a lot of good friends. I think this friendship is very rare and I think these chance to be acquainted with these people is by fate. Moreover,all Saudi Arabian are Islamite,so they must go to pray on Friday afternoon. Hull University had built a place for Islamic students. I and Yu-Hua visited that place. We found that their prayer are like singing the songs. That sounds very nice！After several talks with Saudi Arabian friends,I think Saudi Arabia give the their people a lot of welfare by their government. They don’t need to pay all the cost and they can 36 go to study abroad.We have promoses with foreign friends about that if we take a trip to their country,they will be the guides for us. Oppositely, they will come to Taiwan ,we will be their guides to lead them to travel round Taiwan and take them to taste all special local food in Taiwan. Taking a trip to Europe and America has been my dream. Because I like their life and atmosphere. The most I like is that there are much grass and people can go on a picnic. The appearance of their house make me feel warm and they have own garden that can decorate it by themselves. I found that children like to exercise in the afternoon,no wonder they are good at all kind of sports. One day,I saw two girls riding two horses in the street. That is so interesting. There are many cows and horses in the surbubs. They run unconfinedly,not raise in cages. In these days that we are in UK,school had some social programs for students. On first Saturday,we went to all of the museums in Hull city. On second Saturday, we went to Scarborough and ae can see beautiful scenery of sea. There are a lot of sea mews over there. Unfortunately,I didn’t visit the castle in Scarborough. On third Saturday,we went to Lincoln and we visited Lincoln minster and castle. We can see many monuments,churches,and castles everywhere. These ancient relic are different from Taiwan. I only can see them on television in the past. This feeling is like that a fond dream become true. On first and second Sunday, we went to York and Outlet. We can see many performs in the street. For example,the sturt man,singer,and band. Because“When in Rome,do as Romans do”,we went to have afternoon tea. We ordered coffees and some dessert to enjoy the leisurely time. In addition,we went to a rather morden city — Leeds. We can see a lot of stylish skyscrapers over there. They almost are department stores and shopping mall. When we went to this city, there are a big parade. I went to ask a police and he told that is a gay party. We can find tourist center in every city. I think that is very nice and convenient for tourist. Because tourist center provide us local maps and local Information. This is a advantage we should learn. 37 In the last week, we need to have a presentation about a project with my classmate. There are four Saudi Arabian in my team. We should discuss all details together before we have presentation. I can learn how to express my opinion, distribute our job, and correct my pronunciation. Our topic of project is “music”,we analysed the difference between British, Saudi Arabia,and Taiwan. We can appreciate the songs from each country. In my opinion, I make an impression on the song of Saudi Arabian. Because their songsare out of the ordinary. My partner told me that they don’t have many types of music. They just have one type of music.They don’t have pop music, rock music,classical music,and so on. From other teams,I can realize the different culture between different coutry. It is very interesting .Although I just got five points in my project,I think the process is the most important. In this month,I learn a lot of things that I have never learned and I have never seen. I decide to improve my English when I come back to Taiwan. The motive power include many reasons, I only know that English is very importantin many side. 學海獎學金中文報告-赫爾大學團 企管一 A 梁祐華 首先要感謝學校給了我這個機會，去看看台灣以外的世界。這是我第一次坐飛 機，也是我第一次出國。 在這之前，我就先做好了準備，問有經驗的學長姐，果然很有幫助，因為她們 跟我說，衣服不用帶太多以免超重，也聽從了任主任的建議，帶了些許的衣服，和超 大行李箱，準備購物去。 38 這次我們的飛機航班是從高雄到香港，香港到阿姆斯特丹，阿姆斯特丹到赫 爾，種飛行時數大約 13 個小時，我只能說好累啊!!因為在飛機上睡也睡不好，所以等 我到達赫爾的時候，真的是筋疲力竭，似乎也沒什麼時差的問題，真的是累到倒頭就 睡，在踏上英國土地的那天起，我的生活每天都過的很充實，似乎沒有一刻是閒著 的。接下來我想用條列式的介紹，來記錄我在英國的生活點滴: 我們的居住地(the lawns)這裡是我們認識世界各國學生的大本營，在這裡我認識了，來自沙烏地阿拉伯 的人，來自泰國純樸可愛朋友，還有來自法國的夏令營小朋友，因為在英國太陽大約 晚上 10 點鐘下山，所以空閒的時間，我們就會和外國人，踢足球，打羽毛球，聊各國 的文化，風土民情，在這個小小社區裡，我和沙烏地阿拉伯人，泰國人在短短的一個 月裡發展出深厚的友誼，這是我從沒想過的，我想這是我此次旅行的最大收穫，甚至 在我回國抵達台灣的那個晚上我就接到來自英國的越洋電話，真的覺得很溫暖，到目 前為止我們仍保持聯絡，他們也將是我更努力學習英文的動力之一。 39 赫爾大學(hull university)這是我們上課的大學，在大學裡的語言中心與外國學生一起上課程二(course 2)，我們班上的學生有一大部分來自沙烏地阿拉伯，其餘的來自中國，泰國，利比 亞，剛開始聽到各國學生自我介紹的時候，我還真的是吃驚了一下，心裡想:老天啊!他 們是在說英文嗎?世界各國的口音都不一樣，不過現在我都能完全了解他們再說什麼 了，我很喜歡我們班上的上課氣氛，大家勇於發表，笑聲不斷，也或許是大家的英文 表達能力都不是很好，所以又更多了一份耐心去聆聽，去了解。尤其是在最後做報告 的時候，充分的利用了”溝通技巧”，因為來自世界各國的人因為民族性的不同，還有 個體差別的因素鬧了不少笑話。最後我在報告尾聲的時候穿上阿拉伯的傳統服飾，大 家一起歡樂的感覺真的很好，也算是一種國民外交吧! 40 市中心(city centre)這裡是購物的大本營，也是公車的轉運站，有 Tesco(英國的大賣場)，百貨公 司，幾乎各大運動品牌都有，當我一走進去百貨公司的時候我就被嚇到了，因為他們 的百貨公司親和力未免也太好了吧!你會看見各各名牌包包凌亂的擺放在櫃子上，還是 我們台灣人比較懂得擺放的藝術。不知道的人還以為走到一般大賣場哩!還有他們抽菸 幾乎已經到了氾濫的地步，年輕父母手上牽著小孩，只見兩夫妻都在抽菸，青少年等 公車時的娛樂就是抽菸，他們幾乎人手一枝菸，馬路上倒沒有大垃圾，但是隨處可見 菸蒂。這裡的真皮包包便宜的嚇死人台灣的價格大約是他們 5~7 倍，還有各大運動品 牌的包包也是比台灣便宜的。 41 Deep 水族館在市中心附近，步行即可到達，聽說裡面不怎麼樣，不過是個值得一看的建 築物，可以步行到港邊看看這個水族館。 夜店(night club)我在台灣完全沒有去過夜店，但是來到西方國家就是要去感受一下他們的夜 店文化，對他們來說是如此的平常，就像是飯後的休閒娛樂一般，有趣的是英國的白 天街道上出沒的大部分都是老人，而夜晚天黑以後都是年輕人出現，整個街道都是 人，就像白天一樣多人，只是天黑霸了，活動族群也不一樣，進到夜店裡，音樂很大 聲，也有不少同志族群，可怕的是只有我們這群東方面孔，不過在阿拉伯學生的帶領 下玩的也頗盡興的，也發生了不少麻煩的是…，守衛發現我們幾個東方人，就要開始 42 查身分証了(是我們東方人看起來都比較小嗎?)，不論我們怎麼說，他就是要看護照， 只好坐計程車回去拿嘍!一般來說入場費是 6 镑，不過因為我們是持護照的外國人所以 免費，雖然發生了這個小插曲，我們仍興致不減，玩的很過癮。 約克郡(york)+out let大約從 lawns 出發約一個多小時的車程(8.5 镑)赫爾隸屬於約克郡，約克是一個 古城，小小的街道充滿人文氣息，隨處可見古蹟，和大教堂，而在這裡最有名的就屬 約克大教堂了，還有隨處可見的街頭藝人，到了約克在搭車 30 分鐘(2 镑) 就會到達 out let，這裡是各大品牌販賣過季商品的地方，真的便宜很多喔!像我們就 在一個月內去了約克兩次。 43 林肯林肯也是一個古城，也有一個林肯城堡，他保存的很良好，我們也爬上城牆遠 眺在林肯城堡旁的大教堂，真的是充滿著歐洲的味道，隨處可見的大教堂及古堡，還 有他小小的街道，各各商店販賣著獨具特色的商品，像是手工巧克，施華洛斯奇的藝 品，舊書店…等。 44 Scarborough他是一個沙灘，最令我映像深刻的是他的海鳥，好像都不怕人似的，從你的頭 頂掠過，還有這裡也有個殘破的城堡，那半面的城堡和藍藍的天空，譜成了一幅最動 人的畫，也在城堡裡享用了最道地的下午茶，我們隨著任主任的腳步，走了一大半的 城鎮，經過了英國的傳統市場，還有在街道上的攤販賣著傳統美食，也有來自法國的 糕點師傅熱情的請我們試吃，真的覺得很充實，只是唯一遺憾的是，似乎英國的海邊 溫度太低，竟沒看到比基尼辣妹，只看到比基尼大嬸。 45 Leeds他是一個現代化的大城市，相較之下我比較喜歡古城那狹小充滿歷史氣味的街 道，在那裡販賣的各種商品價格都是比較貴的，來到這裡終於看到像樣一點的百貨公 司了，但是貴的嚇死人阿!所以我們就走往知性路線的博物館，美術館，來到這裡湊巧 遇見同志大遊行，也感受到外國人的開放，許多圍觀的民眾也加入他們的行列與他們 同歡，不論你是不是同志，只要你生活在這個地球上，你就是我們的一份子。 46 Beverley這是離我們住的地方不遠的一個小鎮，他也有他的小小市中心跟教堂，來到這 裡最主要的目的是想看看 Beverley 的樣貌，還有聽說這裡有一家英國有名的皮製品店 Lakeland，真的名不虛傳，這裡販賣著各式各樣的皮製品，像是全皮的夾克，皮包，帽 子. ..等，真的是買的很開心阿!不過也因為店員口音太重鬧了不少笑話，他連續重複了 三次購買的金額，我還真的聽不懂，最後只好出動計算機請他按給我看。 真的很謝謝學校，舉辦這樣有意義的活動，不僅是給了我們一個看世界的機 會，也給了我們一個促進國民外交的機會，有不少的外國朋友都說，下次一定要來台 灣看看，因為台灣有這好的人們!我也告訴他們有機會一定要來看看我們的學校 義守大學。 47 - The report of scholarship -hull University Business Administration-A Yu-Hua，Liang At the beginning of the summer vacation, I went to England for summer camp of ISU scholarship. I met the people around the world, such as Saudi Arabia, Spanish, Italian, and people from Thailand. They were all friendly. However, there seems a big gap between western culture and Taiwanese culture; western people can’t bare us saying sorry all the time. Finally, I learned from them we have to stand ourselves and be brave to speak out our opinions. It’s amazing when I first saw the castle and church. And then I am used to see churches and castles. It’s part of their culture. First I have to appreciate ISU University giving me this chance. It’s really taking us a long time to England about 13 hours. Our fight from Taiwan to Hong Kong, Hong Kong to Amsterdam and Amsterdam to hull, before I went aboard most of the tourist information telling us the things we bought from the duty free store of airport will more cheaper than 48 Taiwan’s local store. However, it’s wrong. The things there are more expensive than Taiwan even in the duty free shop. That why the GDP of Europe is so high. The lawns This is the place we live, and the place we meet people around world. Such as, people from Saudi Arabia, Spain, Italy, Thailand, Japan, etc. All of them were friendly. Soccer in England Is very hot and because of the sun set in England at 10 P.M., W e had many time to play sports, soccer, badminton, basketball, and so on. I can’t image I can have such strong relationship between Saudi Arabian, Thailand people, and me. As I arriving Taiwan they called me from England to check whether I am safe or not. It’s really touching me. At least, we still keep in touch now. They let me have power to prove my English. Hull University We studied in Hull University. I introduce my class members, most of them from Saudi Arabia, and the left from Thailand, Taiwan, China, and Libya. At the beginning I was not used to hear them talking, because they had strong accent. But now I can understand what they are saying. I like the atmosphere in my class; it’s filled with laugh, lively, friendly and 49 happiness. Maybe it’s resort from our English level. Because we are poor in English that we have patient with other people. At the end of the class we have a project. When I wear the traditional coat of Saudi Arabia, everybody burst into laughing, they said I look like a ninja. City centre This is a shopping centre of hull, and the station of bus and train. There is a big store “Tesco”, and some department store. To sum up, it a shopping place. I was shock, when I first visited their department store. I saw the placement of the goods were in a mess, just like grocery store. In my opinion, I think they should learn the art of placement from Taiwan. It’s incredible they smoking all the time, parents with little child, teenager waiting for bus, and also on the street. The smoking pollution and population seems more serious than Taiwan. Their street is clean, but they have so many stubs on the street. If you like the goods made from real leather, England is your shopping paradise. The price here maybe three times 50 cheaper than In Taiwan, buying real leather’s products here is definitely a great choice. Also, the local brand in England “Clark” and some famous sport brand are cheap here. The deep aquarium It’s near the city centre. You can take the bus from lawns to city centre, and then go by walk. We hadn’t going inside because some people say the exhibition of the marine animal is awful and boring. So we just walk there at night to see it beautiful night view, because the building of the aquarium is special. Night club I never went to night club in Taiwan before. I heard the culture of western night club isn’t being missed by people. So I went there to experience the western night club culture. It interesting group of street in the morning are all older people. But when the night comes, the group of the street turns into young people. When the night got deeper and deeper the conscious of the young people became more and more decrease. If they drank, they will stand 51 or sit on the street and then raise a big uproar. Maybe Asia people look younger than their original age. So when we went to the night club, the guard of the night club checked our passport. At that time, we found that we forgot to bring our passports, fortunately, one of our Saudi Arabia friends he called the taxi for us and paid for us. We back to the lawns and bring our passport back. Luckily, because we bring our passport back to prove we are foreigners and over eighteen that we are free for the night club. As I went inside the night club I was be startled by the noisy music. But it clean inside, I thought it might be dirty and mess before I went in. We really had a good time in night club. To be honest, I am poor in dance and my body is stiff. I sincerely thank Mohammad NO.1, Mohammad NO.2, Debby, and so on. They encourage me to dance and teach me how to wave. All of them are from Saudi Arabia. York and outlet It takes one and half hours from lawns to York, and spent us 8.5 pound to York. York is a famous old town; it’s filled with history and humanities, narrow streets, old church, 52 and some local shops. By the way, York known for it’s big church- York church. I felt dark and cold inside, I have heard a medium say York is a famous ghost city in the United Kingdom, and the big York church is it stronghold. That why I felt cold, when I went inside. If you want to buy famous brand with a low price, you can go to outlet. It takes 2.5 pound from York to outlet. I bought a lot of things there, such as bags, shoes, clothes, and so forth. We went there twice. Lincoln Lincoln is also an old city. It knows for its historical castle. We can stand on the wall, and look toward the old city. It’s really great. There also had special local shop, such as handmade chlorate shop, bag shop, old book stores, and so on. 53 Scarborough It’s a beautiful beach, and its have find sand. This is my first time see the sea birds so closely. They didn’t afraid of people so that I can take a picture of them. Because it is a port, they have so many sea foods, such as the sandwich of fishes, lobsters, and so forth. And then we went to a castle near the sea, we saw a play in the afternoon and have traditional British tea. What a pleasure moment! We walked on their traditional shopping street, they sells so many things, such as candies, cakes, hats, and so on. I want to see the spicy bikini girl on the beach, but it seems too cold to wear bikini, I just see the bikini old women on the 54 beach. Leeds It’s a modem big city, but the price here is very high. We can’t buy anything here. I like the old city in England, so it obviously I don’t like Leeds very much. Because the price here is high, we go to gallery, museum, and even see the parade of homosexuals. They have five colors flag. Just like carnival. I never saw homosexual parade before. I think the spirit of them is that no matter you are homosexual or not you can have fun with us, we here just for fun and let people see us. Don’t be afraid just sing and dance with us. 55 Beverly It’s a small town near the lawns. It also has its beautiful small church and small city town. Why I am here? I am here for a shop- Lakeland. It’s a local famous brand. Lakeland is known for it hand made fine leather. The quality is really good and the price here is too. They have bags, heavy coat, and so on. They all made form real leather. When the seller told the price to me, I can’t understand so they told me three times. Finally, I took out my calculator, let her show me the price. I sincerely thank Isu University have this meaningful activity. It’s not only let me have a chance to see the world, also give me a chance to do People-to-people diplomacy . And I told to those foreign students next time if you come to Taiwan I will show you the beautiful school- Isu University. 56 2009 學海獎學金 赫爾大學研習團 University of Hull 心得報告 57 學生: 土木一 B 9706058A 莊麒叡 土木一 B 9706058A 莊麒 叡 「我的未來不是夢」這句話是每個莘莘學子求學時期的座右銘， 透過不斷的學習，此時此刻我的夢想已經成真。一年前剛考上義守 大學，學校為我們大一新鮮人準備新生說明會，在會中介紹本校提 供多項獎助學金，當時就吸引著我在大學四年裡要努力，如此方能 有出國學習的機會。經過半年學校老師的用心教導與鼓勵，我報名 參加學海獎學金的考試，非常幸運地我被錄取了。在經過緊張刺激 的抽籤後，我可以到英國 赫爾大學學習一個月，不僅同學和家人為 我祝賀，導師也為我高興，在感謝之餘我雀躍不已，因為這是我第 一次出國的機會。 58 七月十一日當天，一到小港機場，熱情的血液來回滾動奔騰 著。飛機起飛後我往窗外望去，從高雄小港機場四周的建築，然後 擴大到附近的大高雄，接著是台灣南部輪廓，不久後整個番薯形狀 的島嶼‥‥‥‥。 一路轉機，先抵達繁華的東方之珠--香港，再到荷蘭 阿姆斯特 丹，正當飛機即將降落在英國 赫爾機場前，我往外望去，紅屋頂的 建築物坐落於一畝畝的綠色草地上。從赫爾上空俯瞰，似乎沒有像 台灣的高山以及高樓大廈，而是一望無際的平原和典雅的低矮房 子，有時則是城堡式的建築。路上福斯汽車和公車幾乎佔了大多數 有時還能看到當地人騎馬的奇景。英國汽車的設計恰好和台灣相 反，司機座是靠右的，行人和車子行進是靠左邊。當地的道路稍為 狹窄，只有雙線道，不過英國人真的很守交通規矩，就算沒有警察 在旁督促，他們照樣「紅燈停綠燈行」，相較於我們台灣的交通--「衝 衝衝，亂亂亂」，英國如此循規蹈矩的交通文化是值得我們效法的。 馬路還有規劃腳踏車專用區。而且英國人很愛狗，到處都可以 看見主人帶著愛犬散步。馬路兩旁的民房整齊劃一幾乎每一區域外 觀都一樣，商店也都是用紅磚頭砌成，非常古典。依照當地居民的 敘述：建築物的外觀是不輕易變更的，連室內隔間或設備想要變更 時均需申請，（若位於古蹟保存區尤甚），核准後政府還會派人來施 工（比起國內違章建築或違規營業有天壤之別）。英國環境優美空氣 清新因為種了很多植物。草皮很綠、樹木非常高大，我想這是英國 歷史久遠的關係吧！英國的天氣變化很大，前一分鐘還是晴天，下 一分鐘可能就刮風下雨。下小雨時，當地人都不撐傘，看似喜歡在 雨中漫步的感覺。 學校提供早餐及晚餐都非常豐盛。早餐有麵包，烤好的吐司、 水果、優格、煎蛋、咖啡、牛奶、麥片等。晚餐更是豐富，有義大 利通心麵、烤馬鈴薯、炸薯條、水煮的胡蘿蔔、花椰菜、豆子、起 59 司、果汁、蛋糕、咖啡、茶包、沙拉、優格、水果。用過晚餐，好 多青少年會在草皮上踢足球、打排球等休閒運動。想當時我也那麼 年輕活潑，在運動場上揮灑汗水。 英國有許多不同種族的居民，因此也有各式各樣的食物，在路 上會時可看到法國、義大利、希臘、美國或印度餐廳，尤其是中國 餐廳，讓我有十分多元的選擇，可以體驗異國的飲食文化。也可以 自行烹調食物，不過要事先到當地超級市場，購買一些食材回到宿 舍來煮。宿舍廚房有烤箱、微波爐、冰箱、電磁爐、水壺。雖然廚 房的水龍頭打開就可以喝了，不過我還是會煮一下。在英國洗衣要 5 鎊，衣服烘乾要 2 鎊，讓我好想把衣服通通寄回家孝敬老母。 每天都要搭公車上學(雙層巴士公車)。公車還蠻準時的（時間一 到，司機是不等人的），如果沒搭到車，20 分鐘後就有一班，不用 太擔心。一路上乘車的幾乎都是老年人（英國和台灣一樣進入老年化 的社會，所以這一點還蠻相像的），車上還有給婦人放嬰兒車的位 子，感覺很貼心，有時候乘客太多只能站著，不過為了安全起見， 司機是不會讓我們站在上層的。 每週學校都有安排讓學生聽演講，演講後的那一堂課，tutor 會 和我們討論該次演講的內容和心得，因此我漸漸的了解如何在演講 中做筆記和怎麼編排讓大家有興趣的投影片才能使觀眾認真地聆 聽。此外，每天都會到語言中心上課，地上和樓梯幾乎都鋪地毯（看 起來真的很有英國味，也相當高級）。我們是小班教學（這和我所熟 悉的台灣的學習環境相差不少），每間教室最多只有 15 位學生，在 課堂上每位學生都是主角，tutor 也能確實掌握大家的學習情況。這 個月可以選的課程有兩種：一是 Communication Skills ，另一種是 English for Academic Purposes。我選擇後者，因為我在寫作部份想要 再進步。不管選 Communication Skills 或是 English for Academic Purposes 和台灣學習最大的不同是在上課時，同學間要互動、且要 60 討論課本的問題，下課後都有作業，而且需要做紀錄。隔天 tutor 都 會依序詢問同學的答案。以“啟發”式的教育制度，要同學自己去 念、自己去找資料，老師只會引導我們大概的方向。剛開始我無法 像義大利、阿拉伯的同學一樣侃侃而談，只能在一旁說：「我同意你 們。」不過他們也不錯，會讓我有表達的機會，一星期後我可以在互 動討論中說出我大概的想法。 在這一個月中最重要的活動就是 Presentation。我們的主題都是 關於赫爾城市，和組員討論後決定作赫爾的歷史，因此我們到圖書 館借書、查資料。他們的藏書好豐富，可以讓我們使用的電腦也很 多，不過需要輸入帳號和密碼(註冊後學校就會給每個人，因為不管 在學生宿舍，還是要使用學校的電腦都需要輸入)，作 Presentation 的 過程中我們分工合作和發揮各自的專長，在完成簡報那一剎那，喜 樂充滿在心頭燃燒，必定會讓我永生難忘。交了 1000〜1500 字的 essay 給 tutor 後，我上台 Presentation 3〜5 分鐘，在這麼多外國人的 面前用英語講出我做的投影片的心得，實在很緊張，不過在我的組 員向我表示報告得很精彩後，心中的壓力一掃而空！ 除了上課之外，social program 也安排不少活動，像 pub night, explore Hull Museum and Art Gallery ,a day at Scarborough and Lincoln,movie nigh 等等。在 pub 中我看見男男女女在五光十色的燈 光下隨著音樂扭動身體，不過對於不會跳舞和聽不懂歌詞的我，只 能在一旁乾瞪眼、吃點心和聊天。在 explore Hull Museum 後，我才 知道原來赫爾這個城市在第二次世界大戰中遭到戰火的摧殘僅次於 倫敦，不過因為它是海港的城市，所以它重建很快速，在西元 2000 年人口已達 300,000 人。在 Art Gallery 中我看見這生動的藝術畫廊， 收藏了跨越 16 世紀到今天、從英國和歐洲的油畫、水彩畫、和雕 像，真令我大開眼界。經過一天 Scarborough 的探索後，發現原來它 也是赫爾大學的一個校區。 61 carborough 在海邊，因此可以聆聽海鷗的叫聲和在高處瞭望在 海中行駛的船，我們還到歷史悠久的城堡中探索，走到城堡最頂層 可以看見整個小鎮的風景，真的好美!一提到 Lincoln，馬上就聯想到 林肯大教堂，它是電影達文西密碼拍攝的場景之一喔!不知道密碼是 否還在教堂內？與其他的教堂相比，林肯大教堂非常開放，教堂內 部不但讓民眾免費拍照，也有許多場次的導覽。我也參加導覽：林 肯大教堂經過三個世紀才建造好，它經歷了火災、地震。林肯教堂 只剩下某部份石塊為第一次興建時的遺跡。一想到這棟教堂幾乎全 是石材建照，那浩大的工程真令人嘆為觀止!走進大廳，石柱和拱門 的設計令人讚嘆規劃者的能力和施工者的細緻工活。雄偉的玫瑰琉 璃窗讓這裡的氣氛像現代畫廊，最後到屋頂外面俯瞰林肯郡，美景 盡收眼底，能看見城堡、城牆和城門。 在學校安排的活動之外，帶團任老師也有在週末帶大家出去走 走，我們去了 York 和 Leeds。我們有參觀 York 教堂，York Minster 為木造教堂，教堂的側門有一座君士坦丁大帝的青銅雕像，教堂的 內部和先前參觀過的差不多。我們也有去 Designer Outlet 購物，東 西都比百貨公司便宜。Leeds 是購物者的天堂，它擁有時裝百貨公司 和許多頂級設計師時裝店，漫步市中心，可見典雅的商場，精品店 及專門店與現代化的購物商場和高檔品牌平分秋色。儘管看到很喜 歡的物品，不過一看到價錢就手軟，因為它們的價位真的比其他地 方高。 「學海無涯」是我此行最大的心情寫照。「此刻打盹，你將作 夢，此刻學習，你將築夢」。非常感謝帶團任老師一個月的帶領，教 大家看登機時刻表、買車票、在課程和生活上的照顧。能夠考取 2009 年學海獎學金首先要感謝我的導師林國良老師和實用英文徐文 華老師的鼓勵與系主任翁誌煌教授的推薦我才能參加學海獎學金的 考試，以及家人的陪伴與支持。最後更要感謝學校提供海外遊學的 62 獎學金，我才有這個機會到英國，讓我學習了英國教育的理念與目 標，見識國外的人文、風情、種族、公共工程建設、建築及文化。 學海獎學金的出團能夠刺激本校與國際的接觸，讓每個學員都具足 在地的鄉土情與恢宏的國際觀，更讓義大學生更有信心把外語學 好，才能在二十一世紀和地球村做更好的接軌。 63 土木一 B 9706058A 莊麒 叡 ISU University prepared a introduction for freshman like me one year ago, it revealed that it provides a number of scholarships for pupils. As a result, I made up my mind that I require to study hard in the university for the purpose of traveling abroad. Thanks for tutors teaching and encouraging, I was accepted after the exam. The exciting drawing turned out that I had the opportunity to learn at the Hull University in the Britain for one month. I was extremely excited not only my friends and family celebrated about it but also it was my first time to travel abroad! On July twenty first at airport in Kaohsiung my blood was pumping with exciting mood. After taking off, I looked though a window: the structures surrounded the airport then south Taiwan. Soon after, the whole shape of the island ... 64 We transferred in Hong Kong(HK) at beginning. Amazingly, There were eighty gates as well as undergrounds in the airport! No wonder HK is called one of the leading commercial centers. Nearly 12 hours journey later, we arrived in the Netherland. Items in the Amsterdam’s airport compared to HK were much cheaper. After 17 hours of long and tiring journey, I arrived at Hull’s Airport in the England at length. There were not any high mountains or tall structures instead of plains and elegant houses. The roads were narrow in the UK. However, even though there were no police officers, citizens markedly abided by the traffic rules. I thought we should follow with a view to declining car accidents on the roads. It was really common to see people walking with their dogs. They considered dogs to be their loyal friends! When I walked on the street ,I was surprised that the houses were akin to each other in the same block. In addition, shops were made of bricks, their appearances were extremely attractive. The air in the Hull was quite fresh on account of planting plants. The trees were unusually tall. That is, Hull is a old town. The weather in the UK is quite variable. Believe it or not, it is sunny, however, it would turn into rainy and cloudy after one minutes. Strange to say, British get used to walking in little rainy day without umbrella! Chances are they thought it is greatly romantic! The University Of Hull served excellent breakfast and lunch for people, including pasta、 potato、 65 cakes and so on. After lunch, adolescents would do activities on the meadow. For instance, played badminton 、volleyball 、 and kicked football. I did these activities when I was young. I extremely wish I could be reborn! There are many racial people in the UK. Of course, it exists France、 Italian 、and American restaurants. Provided that you enjoy foreign food a lot, you will require to taste it! However, if you want to save money, you can cook on your own. Take school bus to Tesco、 Somerfield or ASDA ,and purchase what you desire to eat then cook in the kitchen. An oven 、a microwave 、a refrigerator were given . Even though the water in the kitchen is allow to drink, I still drink boiled water. Do launder by wash machine costs five pounds in Britain! It took two pounds to dry. It was markedly expensive(I extremely desired to send back to Taiwan for my mother) as a result I washed on my own. We took school bus to the University Of Hull, the buses were extremely on time.(When time was up, bus driver must drive even if learns were approaching!)If you did not catch the bus ,do not worry, another bus will come after 20 minutes. The buses in the Britain had two layers. On the way to campus, the passenger were almost the elder.(It seems that the UK was similar to Taiwan has turned into a old society.)When there were 66 a number of people in the bus, driver could not let you stand on the second floor for security. English lecture was provided in course once a week. After these lectures, tutor would discussed concerning what we felt as well as asked some question in the class. Later on, I realized not only how to take note during the lecture but also knew how to arrange attractive ppt. Carpet was widely used in the classrooms. It looked quite classically elegant as well as revealed special taste. There were merely ten pupils in each class compared to Taiwan，s .Every learners were under control by tutor. In addition, any one of us were key role. Two courses were provided in this month. One was Communication Skills course, the other was English for Academic Purposes(EAP).What I chose the latter one(EAP )since I looked forward to make progress in writing. No matter which one you chose, there was one thing in common: Prepare a Presentation with a topic concerning Hull in this month. Nevertheless, during the class learners required to discuss compared to Taiwan. Moreover. students had assignments after classes dismissed and recorded it every day. The next day, tutor would inquire our answers by turns. I strongly believed that the most different was education system. Learners were educated by enlightenment. Tutor merely taught you how to do rather than what to do it. Hence, my teammates and I went to library to find conducts as well as 67 did research ourselves. At the beginning of the course, I just could say” You can say that again”. However ,I could said something during the reaction with classmates after a week. While doing the presentation, it was really a hardship for me. I typed around one thousand words, in addition I did rehearsal several times. After turning my paper to tutor, I talked with fear in front of my classmates. Yet, I felt relief at length. The University Of Hull provided leisure activities after classes as well. For instance, pub night、explore Hull Museum and Art Gallery、a day at Scarborough and Lincoln were given by social program. At pub night, it showed that male and female moved their bodies with pop music. However, I could not only figure out the songs mean but also I could not dance .I had no choice but to grab some snacks and chat with others. After explore Hull Museum, I realized Hull city was destroyed heavily during The World War 2.It ranked the second one right after London, which was the most serious city in the UK. Surprisingly, the population climbed up to 300,000people in the 20 century. It indicated that Hull city reconstructed quickly! In Art Gallery ,I saw a number of works. Including, oil paintings、statues and sketches. The collections contained European nations and collected from the 16 century to nowadays! Explored Scarborough for one day, I understood that it was another campus of The University Of Hull. Besides, we took adventure in 68 the aged castles. While I walked to the top of it, I looked down at the whole town as well as the beach. The scenery was markedly beautiful. In terms of Lincoln, the most famous scenic spot was The Lincoln Church where was a places of the movie ,The Da Vinci Code.The Lincoln Church was widely enjoy by public since it was free to look around. Yet, I cost some money to comprehend more background concerning it. A man guided for us from the basement to the top of the church. I got a lot of information after the introduction: it had been built for 3 centuries、 underwent fire and earthquakes 、there were all made of woods and bricks etc. Our guide Dr.Ren leaded us to some places as well. For instance, York and Leeds cities. York Minster is one of the great cathedrals in the world. Since, we took a look at it. Frankly, I thought interior were similar to other churches! The only different was the exterior. Consequently, I only took some photos. Designer Outlet was required to go as well. The whole goods were considerable cheap compared to the departments stores in Taiwan. Speaking to Leeds city, it was heaven of shopping lovers. High class commodities were given in the shopping centers or departments stores. I desired to buy a Levies T-shirt, however, I did not purchase it owning to the price was far high than other cities. Accordingly, I could only do windows shopping. 69 I made some foreign friends in the EAP course as well as realized more cultures difference between other nations and Taiwan during this month. Moreover, it is important to learn a second language nowadays. Thanks to Dr.Ren’s look after and guiding so that I could had memorable as well as safe summer vacation in England. For instance, how to board、 realize the map’s meaning 、use knives and forks and so on. In addition, thanks for my home teacher Dr. Lin’s assistance、English teacher Ms Shu ‘s teaching、recommended by Weng professor and chairman. What is more, ISU University reserved the scholarship for pupils with an eye to going a further educating.
