May our homes be filled with love, joy and hope. Let trespasses be forgiven, wounds be healed and conflict melt into harmony. May our children grow in knowledge, understanding and wisdom; May they be strong in mind, body and spirit; May they have the courage to follow your ways. Dear God, may home, parish and school work together to create a world where our children can help build a civilization of love. Amen. Principal’s Message As this new school year begins, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all the new families in our school community and to welcome back all those returning to St. Dunstan. I would also like to welcome our new Superintendent for the Mississauga South Family of Schools, David Amaral and welcome back to our Trustee, Peter Ferreira. As we anticipate the successes of the year ahead, I encourage you to remember that each success will be the result of the mutual support and respect we as parents and educators show one another. It is very important that the positive relationships of the past continue throughout the upcoming year. As our students mature we are reminded that their beliefs, ideals and sense of responsibility, friendship and family are constantly challenged and the common language and support we share as role models in their lives will impact greatly on their values as they grow into Catholic leaders of the future. As part of St. Joseph’s Parish we work closely with the Church community to live the gospel values and provide for the faith development of your child. Thank you to the St. Dunstan staff for all your work in preparing to receive our students on the first day of school. I look forward to seeing everyone at our Open House/BBQ on September 19th. All my best for a wonderful school year, God Bless. Trustee Message As your Trustee, it gives me much pleasure to welcome back all students, staff and parents to another year at St. Dunstan School. A special welcome to those who are new to our school community, may it be all that you expect from a Catholic school. The Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board is a vibrant part of this community and of our parishes, and the preferred choice for parents and supporters of Catholic education in our region. We continue to be a Board that our community can be proud of, as our successes mount and our leadership in provincial initiatives continues to be well-recognized and emulated. Each of us contributes to the betterment of our system and, consequently, to the improvement and quality of experience for our students. We are fortunate to welcome our returning staff members. They have worked diligently over the summer months setting up their classrooms and programming for the new school year. As we anticipate the successes of the year ahead, we are reminded that each success will be the result of the mutual support and respect we as parents and educators show one another. It is very important that the positive relationships of the past continue throughout the upcoming year. As our students mature, we are reminded that their beliefs, ideals and sense of responsibility, friendship and family are constantly challenged. The common language and support we share as role models in their lives will influence their values. Our school community is strengthened through our partnerships, none being more important than our parish team and our School Council. Our students respond respectfully and eagerly to each faith and school initiative; this can only be attributed to the values modeled by their parents. The staff of St. Dunstan School is committed to working with its partners to continue to support each child in their quest for knowledge, happiness and spiritual development. Together we are the sculptors. I wish you all a successful 2013-2014 school year. God Bless, Peter Ferreira, Trustee, Wards 6 & 11, Mississauga Staffing The beginning of each school year is always marked by unexpected changes which require all of us to be understanding, accommodating and flexible. The September school organization is based on projected enrolment prepared by the Board’s Planning Department. Such enrolment projections determine the number of teachers assigned to the school and consequently the grade and class configurations. In the event that student enrolment falls below or above projections, an adjustment to the number of teachers assigned to the school follows, which in essence may affect the placement of your child. Therefore, as we start the year, staffing is still tentative and until actual numbers are realized and assessed, reorganization of classes is a strong possibility. Farewell As we begin a new school year we say goodbye to some staff members. Congratulations to Mrs. Kolwich who has accepted a position in the Program Department. We are asking for your co-operation in keeping our school safe for all our students. Several students in our school suffer from a severe food allergy to all nuts, peanuts and all nut products. Should these children come into contact with the food or residue left when someone else has been in contact with the food, they could go into anaphylactic shock – a potentially life-threatening situation. We are asking that you do not send your child with any food for lunch or snack that contains nuts or nut products. If your child were to being this food to eat, the residue from his/ her hands would be transmitted to every item he/she touched after eating. Should the allergic child then touch the same item, a life threatening situation could result. We want all our children to be safe and healthy, and these measures will help ensure this. If your child has been diagnosed with this allergy and you have not notified the school, please do so immediately. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this guideline, please do not hesitate to contact the office. Thank you for your support and understanding. As well, for the protection of children with life threatening allergies to bee strings, all of our students must eat their food/snacks drinks inside the school. We do not allow ANY FOOD on the playground.
