School # 905-792-2251 WEEKLY UPDATE Virtue of the Month: December 1, 2013 issue #12 School secretary: Mrs. Fay School principal: Mr. Maiolo HOPE We will be celebrating the virtue of HOPE as a school community on Thursday, December 19 @ 11:15 a.m. in our gymnasium *Please join us for prayer and reflection Trustee: Mr. McLauchlan The word Advent derives from the Latin word meaning coming. We prepare our hearts for the coming of our Lord. We look forward in hope and hope and anticipation as we pray and prepare our hearts for Christmas. The wreath's symbolism of the advent (coming) of Light into the world is clear. The gradual lighting of the four candles, one on each Sunday of the Advent season, combined with the liturgical colors of the candles (purple is the penitential color used during Advent and Lent; rose is a liturgical color used only on Gaudete Sunday. At this time the staff and students of Georges Vanier School would like to wish you all a happy and holy Advent. ADVENT PRAYER Father, all-powerful God, your eternal Word took flesh on our earth when the Virgin Mary placed her life at the service of your plan. Lift our minds in watchful hope to heart the voice which announces his glory and open our minds to receive the Spirit who prepares us for his coming. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. We have set up our HAT and MITTEN tree in our front foyer. We will be collecting mittens, hats and scarfs to decorate the tree for the next four weeks. We will then be using these items to help students, in our school, stay warm during the winter months. We thank you for your kind donations.
