Abstract ID: 17130 Title: Imaging Symposium Pitfalls and Remedies of MDCT Scanners as Quantitative Instruments Objectives: CT HU accuracy is influenced by the fundamental properties of x-ray physics, CT system calibration processes, data acquisition hardware and protocols, image reconstruction techniques, and patient preparation and handling. With a renewed and increased importance of quantitative imaging, this talk will provide an overview on this issue and focus on a few specific areas: scatter, beam-hardening effect, CT components and system impact, and data acquisition protocols. Various techniques to reduce, correct, or avoid the pitfalls are presented. Current system limitations and new technologies to overcome the shortcomings will also be discussed.
