Fatal Accident Claims Life By R. Dobson-Efpatridis Paul Young, witness at the scene, exclaimed, “I heard a sickening crunch and then saw the Brennan car lurch crazily out of control.” Yesterday, at approximately 2:15 a.m., a fatal car accident occurred at the corner of Alfred and Thomas that claimed the life of a young teen, Miss Amanda Sokolich. Apparently, Mandy was a passenger in standard, green Pontiac driven by her friend Simon Brennan. Although Simon had passed through the traffic lights successfully, another car failed to stop at the intersection and crashed into the passenger side of the car. Officer Roberts stated, “Young Simon was taken to Sunnybrook unconscious, but he will probably be all right. Unfortunately, there is nothing the EMS attendants could do for the young girl. Her family must be in shock and sorrow.” Our prayers and thoughts go out to the Sokolich family for their tragic loss. The funeral service will be closed and attended only by immediate friends and family members on March 2. A memorial service will be held on March 15 for the students of Cobalt High School who wish to pay their respects to the family.
