You should have developed many of the following skills during your studies. Communication skills: Oral – giving presentations, tutorials or discussing projects within a group or with supervisor Written – writing reports on practicals / projects Administrative skills: Time Management – meeting deadlines Organisation – collecting data & processing it IT – using computers to help in your work Interpersonal skills: Teamwork – collaborating on group projects, sharing lab space. Numerical and analytical skills: From analysing data during projects etc. When conducting your skills audit, it is important that you think of the broad spectrum of skills that you have acquired throughout all areas of your life. You should consider everything you have done on your course, as well as any work experience you have completed (paid or voluntary), any extracurricular activities that you have been involved in which can demonstrate that you have developed your skills eg. membership of clubs and societies, team sports. It is by knowing your strengths that you can start marketing yourself effectively to employers. In most cases, however you will need further postgraduate study or professional training. Some graduates use their degree in Anatomy as a stepping-stone into medical and other careers. Graduate entry requirements into ‘accelerated’ (shorter) degree programmes in the following areas often require a life science degree.
