HSA was founded in 1928 by an amalgamation of the Council of Justice to
Animals (founded in 1911 by a small group of people) and the Humane Slaughter
Association.
The mission of the HAS is to promote the humane treatment of all food animals worldwide, including cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry, fish and minority species such as deer, in markets, during transport, and at slaughter. They work through research, education, training, and technical advances to bring real, practical and lasting improvements in food animal welfare.
