MIDDLE SCHOOL TEAM RAISES FUNDS FOR
ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION
Lee Burneson Middle School Language Arts teacher Deb Schrembeck’s eighth
graders raised $350 from an academic haunted house for the Alzheimer’s
Association.
A 30-member student Unity Committee spent a month designing activities using
four classrooms – math, science, Language Arts and U.S. studies – to produce a
haunted house. The math room invited students to solve a math problem and
enter the math maze. The science room provided a sensory mad scientist scene.
The Language Arts room had the books “Divergent,” “The Hunger Games” and
“Percy Jackson” come to life. The U.S. Studies room housed the witches of
Salem.
Students paid $1 to enter the academic haunted house on Oct. 31, with
proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association. Schrembeck said the students
chose Alzheimers because several had family members struggling with the
disease and November is National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.
